i have bought a bass drums trigger..
it is wrong to pass it from the mic preamp and then to the audio interface or the best thing is to go directly to the audio interface?

Um, a trigger needs to be fed into a device that will read the control voltage sent by the trigger. Usually a drum brain or control voltage to midi converter.

And either of those will in turn send the midi note data to your recording application via a midi interface.

Triggers to not get sent to an audio interface. Unless you want to short circuit that input channel.

The red's that I've seen hav a 1/4" out... so if it has XLR then it's probably been modified...and no idea why anyone would want an XLR out on a trigger....

basically the trigger is a 'force sensitive resister' and the voltage produced is sent to a drum module like an alesis DM5 which converts the voltage into a midi value and uses that midi value to trigger the sample that is played back... and/or the midi signal is outputer to the computer... that allows the drum pattern to be recorded and the actual sounds to be altered later.

Ya, I've never seen a dDrum trigger with an XLR connection either.

The red series all have 1/4 TRS connection's on them for control voltage.
