Behringer Xenyx2222FX Mixer Connection

Hello. I cannot get my Mac to recognize my keyboard. I am new to this whole recording business. I just purchased Xenyx2222 which came with UCA200. I am using Garageband and Audacity and both softwares cannot recognize my input. I have made appropriate setups in the computer.
I guess my problem is mixer setup.

This is what I have:
CD/TAPE output to interface's input; and input to output
Control Rm out to my two monitors
Two lines coming in from keyboard to LINE IN9/10
LINE 9/10 Solo button pressed
SOURCE PANEL - CD/TAPE to CTRL RM

I can hear my keyboard through monitors. But the computer says it cannot detect any input.

Perhaps someone with Xenyx can help me with this. Thanks.

I'm not sure what the second part of this means. Sounds like you have the output of the uca200 plugged to something on the mixer? What would this be. I always send the output of my PC/Interface back into the last two channels of my mixer. Then I know the last channel is my incoming PC sound.

What I would do, is to send the mains out, to the input of the uca200. This way you can see on the main's meters, if you have signal or not.

I'm guessing that the cd/tape output doesn't have any meters.

Gain staging is key here, make sure each section is set to a good signal, but not overly high. Only make the first trim / gain knob as high as you can (without clipping).

Also, I'm not sure you want the 9/10 channel solo'ed, this may be a SPF button, which may not send to mains. I can't remember ATM.

Thanks pjk. My case is similar to that of Rusty's. I think I also have similar setup with Rusty's.
I have the output of the UCA200 plugged on the mixer's CD/TAPE input. This CD/TAPE input/output function was apparently designed for UCA200.
I know my interface is connected to my Mac. When I play CD in my computer, I can hear it in my monitors which are connected to my Main Outputs.

I believe that CD/Tape output will send the keyboard sound to the input of the UCA200. When I play the keyboard, I can see the mains' meters going up and down. Strangely, though, the computer (both Audacity and Garageband) cannot recognize them. I crank up the volume but it's still not working.
Yes. The CD/TAPE output does not have any meters.

What am I doing wrong?

Overall, I'd say it's one of two problems.

1. signal is not being sent to the UCA200 from the mixer.

or

2. your mac can't get signal from the uca200 into the mac.

Although I don't know precisely what's wrong, we can eliminate possibilities, until there's only the problem left.

To test #1 above, turn down your CD/Tape volume, and connect a pair of headphones. Turn up that volume to see if there's signal going to the headphones. These two aren't made for each other, but it'll do for a test.

If there IS signal coming to the headphones, then we know there is signal coming out from the CD/Tape output. This means that the mixer part is OK, and the problem is either the UCA200, or your MAC.

If there is NOT signal coming to the headphones, then the mixer buttons / hookup / something is the problem. You need to re-connect stuff or flip buttons to make this output signal.

To test #2 above, find a different signal source, like a home stereo, or radio that sends out LINE level signal. Connect from your test device over to the UCA200 inputs, and see if GB or audacity can see any input. If you can see input, then you know there's something amiss with the mixer.

I hope you can get a sense of how to eliminate parts of the equation. When you divide and conquer, then the problem starts presenting itself.

I will also say to make darn sure that your software knows what device to listen to. In windows, the uca200 shows up as USB Codec, i believe, Maybe it does on MAC as well, and you're pointing to something else.

Test #2 will let you know if there's something wrong in the MAC or not.

Don't forget, check the 9/10 solo button, that may not be supposed to be checked. (that sounded funny).

I'm gonna give you my solution on a setup like this:

1. connect source to mic / line input on mixer.

2. stick 1/4" jack (on patch cable) into channel insert, but only to first click, not all the way in.

3. connect other end of cable (from step 2) to input #1 on interface (UCA200).

4. repeat for channel 2, if there's 2 sources.

5. connect separate cables from L & R outputs of interface, to last stereo pair on mixer (15/16 in my case).

6. connect monitor solution to mains of mixer. For my situation (and maybe yours) I connect my powered monitors directly to my mains out (L & R).

7. plug headphones into headphone jack on mixer.

This way works very well for me, giving me pure signal going from my mixer preamp to my computer, via the channel inserts. Turn up the gain on each channel to a good spot, then leave it alone. Change your monitor level by changing the track faders, and the master fader for overall volume.

this way should work just as well for you.
