Too lazy or stupid to spec my own project

Although I'm building my second DAW I'm not especially computer literate. I just want to use the damn things without forcing my pea brain to learn too much. The first one I did was a few years ago. It's a PIII system that we still use behind a Mackie Onyx board in our practice space and it does fine for recording. I'm doing a new one for my house that obviously needs more horsepower to do some basic tracking, mixing and mastering. I don't expect to do much with soft synths and such (since I don't have any). Anyway, I'd like a little help in picking out a middle of the road MB and CPU that'll get me started down the slippery slope to an empty bank account. I'm running Sonar 4 BTW.

Welcome to HRC.

Given your admitted lack of knowledge with computer, and apparent lack of interest to learn it, I would recommend going to a big-box store and buying a name brand PC. Any current system will be more than enough to run Sonar 4, plus you'll have repair warranty and such as well.

I would concur, get a dell or gateway. They're cheap, and well built. Try to get WinXP Pro, if possible. I would heavily avoid Vista.

I bought a dell box 2 years ago, and recently reloaded it from the CD that came with it, and it only loaded the OS, none of the other stuff. Is sweet.
