Hello everyone!
I am preparing to do some tweaking on my band's live recording. It was recorded on a reel to reel machine, unfortunately only two tracks. It sounds very analog, which I like, and I wouldn't mess with it in the digital domain if it wasn't for the retarded manager of the band that opened for us. He messed with the mixer while no one was looking, and as a result my guitar is too quiet, vocals are too loud and dry (that moron turned off the reverb unit),toms are loud and china (that upside down cymbal, dunno how you call it in English)is extremely loud. Now, from my description this sounds as a disaster. In fact, it's not a bad recording at all, but it could use some tweaking. I need your tips, and if possible a chart which shows frequency ranges of various instruments. Something along the lines of George's "Stupid EQ Tricks" article, but more extensive. Thank you in advance!

Jun 13, 2002 05:43 am Nobody can give you cold, hard frequancies for that kind of job. Perosnally I would say use the tips George gave in that article as a jumping off point and just start raising and lowering faders across the range and see what each one does. The article gives you godd places to start looking.
And I have to say, if you do a good job and find interesting stuff, I we could use the info here ;-)

Jun 13, 2002 08:47 am china's are the same. . . but there are less harsh sounding ones called pangs (if you beat on it constantly it sounds like the roar of a huge audience. . . and is very effective on large audiences :)

Jun 13, 2002 11:15 am Thank you guys! I found some charts, printed George's article, and in a few days I'll fold my sleeves and start tweaking. If this thing gets released, I won't forget to include you in the special thanks list:-).
Jun 13, 2002 11:19 am hehehe, cool, good luck...you just gave me an idea, I think every article should probalby have a printable version available, eh? Just have a button that opens a new window with a black on white, proper-width version just for printing...hmmmm...
thanks for the idea.
Jun 14, 2002 09:49 am New feature! A link on each article page that opens a new browser window with a printable black on white version of the article!
Thanks for the idea, Mizra! Yet another thing to make this community just a little different and better than the others ;-)

Jun 14, 2002 11:31 am Well, I'm really glad I contributed to the community, though I wasn't aware of it. You guys have no idea how much I learned by hanging out here. When I get rid of an exam or two, I'll try to write some articles, and see if the community may actually derive some use of them.
(Thinking loud with a questionmark above my head: Why does every native speaker of English have to misspell my name once in a while?:-))
