Resolve missing files dialog box - Cubase SX3

Hi there,

I'm Ross. I'm new to this forum and was wondering if anyone could help. I've deleted some audio files (mainly little snatches a few seconds long) that and now whenever I open the Cubase project they belonged to I get a 'resolve missing files' dialog box.
How do you stop the dialog box opening every time you open the project (given that the files were unwanted)?
Apologies if this question gets asked regularly.

I've had this in audition when doing tons of punch in. I opened it and ignored all errors, closed the "missing" audio files it was looking for and then re-saved it under a different name.

Hi, Cpt Tripps, thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, that hasn't sorted out the problem out.
Does anyone who uses Cubase know of another way?

Did you delete the files from your file browser, like Windows Explorer? If so that is what is causing the issue. The files need to be deleted right from the track view or the project will just keep looking for them in Cubase. Sonar right now is the only app I know of that doesn't have that issue as it handles the files differently.

I think your only resolution is to export the tracks individually and then start a new project and import each track back in. Then if you ever need to delete tracks again make sure and do it from the Cubase track view.

Noize is right, if you're deleting those files from anywhere other than the track view, or
1)if you have not downloaded the latest version,
2)are using an older, un-updateable version,
3)or if you're using warezed software,
these should be the only reasons for it. Try updating, and if that doesn't work, you can un-install and re-install the program without it touching your audio files, but ALWAYS make sure you have a back up of your audio files, just in case, at all times, on a separate hard drive; it's just good practice and saves much frustration if ever a HD crashes.

If you're using warezed software, then I'm afraid you're on your own, as we don't support pirating here. (Not to imply of course, just fair warning, as always.)

I've been through Cubase time and again and I'm guessing what you did was go through Windows Explorer and delete the unneeded files to free up some disk space or something, which happens to most of us at one point or another if you're running even a slightly older system. Best thing to do in that case is make a back-up of your audio folder and re-install Cubase, which should sold the problem. If not, then clean out your registry (you'll have to look for how to do that on a computer-specific site) as sometimes when you delete files they can leave little 'ghosts' in your registry if your computer has other trojans or virus' on it somewhere.

Let us know what you tried and what resolution you got; it might help other peoples in the future.

Welcome to HRC by the way :)

Thanks guys. I did the exporting thing and started new projects where necessary. Thanks for the advice. I think I did delete them using the browser rather than in Cubase itself. I'll know not to do that in the future.
Thanks again. I reckon I'm going to learn a lot here!
