Maaan, its been 4 months since I've mixed a song! Feels great to have everything set up again.

Anyway, I mixed this song last year, this is the second draft. I would very much appreciate some comments on the mix, specially on the subs. Its not mastered yet, just a couple of buss comps.

Sounds pretty good colonel, though could use a bit more hi's I think, though remember these are old ears listening. :) When you master it, that will probably bring everything out clearer.

OK, just listened to it. Much better production that anything I have managed!
You can actually sing too where as just make a really feeble effort at it!
The rhythm electric was just about right.
I found the accoustic a bit quiet and the bass a bit loud.
I dont like loud bass though.
Also I thought the lead electric was a bit quiet.
For working out what needs to go up and down I always burn it onto a CD and listen to it in the car! I find it gives me a better idea of how things sound in a normal setting rather than sitting in my spare room/office with a jumbo pair of technics headphones on!

Listening on laptop speakers - so I'm not hearing everything right. I'll yake a listen later on my monitors.

Off the bat, I like it.
I love the guitar part - just the right amount of reverb. Well done there.
The snare kinda jumped out a bit on the chorus, but remember these speakers are not going to give me a real feel for it.

Good song, good mixing.

Your link takes me to MY song management page...

Anyhow, on the mix, man I think it's excellent. Everything is super clean. Maybe boost the hats a little and move them towards the center a bit more...
The bass is super prevalent, its there, but I wouldn't say overwhelming. I like it like that (coming from a hip hop state of mind).

I think with a solid master, this will shine. Good job!

Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies. This isn't my song, just my recording. Agree that the bass is too loud, need more highs, drums stick out a bit much for me as well TC. I tried a new approach of keeping all the low mids for this one.

Listening to it on some other speakers, I've come the conclusion that the mix is arse haha. These genelecs are too flattering at times, specially when my ears are fatigued... Stay tuned for a re-mix....

Hey CS, just got a listen today. While I like a lot of the mix myself, the vocals are really clear and clean. I'm not sure about the drum tracks. Some of it is good and some of it turns a bit hollow sounding with kind of a heavy low mid thing going on. Probably due as you stated to trying something new. I would try messing about with the drum mix alone before going to far out with any thing else in the mix.

Give the drums some more upper mids and highs and clean up the low mids and then drop them in. I think they might have gotten loud sounding because of the heavy low mid section and that caused you to bring them up in the mix to be heard better.

Other wise I am diggin this for sure. I think the guitars sound pretty decent myself. But then again I have been out in the cold all weekend and my head is probably not on fully straight yet.
