How much are you willing to spend? The Roland RH-50 is good for about $40. I currently use the Sennheiser HD 280. $100.

Of course, the price scale goes up. The fancy electrostatic headphones run into the four-and-five digits.

I recommend the Roland RH-50 for you.

I got a set of headphones by the name of Equation - RP-21.

I got them purely based on the great reviews I had been seeing, and they are very nice. I find that I have used them more than my AKG 240's. I got them around a $100 from 8th Street music, but you can get them discounted there now for $79 and change.

I use Sony MDR-V600's and I had a pair the Sennheiser HD 280's, both are good but I prefer the Sony, they've lasted longer and I prefer the sound. Both are in the $100 range.

A couple of pointers:

If you're just going to track with them, then focus on finding a pair with good noise attenuation and minimal leakage. AKG and several other manufacturers sell such phones in the $40 range.

If you're going to mix with them, then focus on fidelity and sound quality. It'll probably cost yo $100+ to get into phones with faithful flat reproduction of the signal.

For tracking, especially vocals were bleeding into the mic is a no no AKG can't be beat. Even the $40 ones are pretty tight as far as that goes.

Audio Technica also has a new one out model ATH M50 that runs around $150 that are killer. Very well sealed and extreme high fidelity. I tried a pair and they are also very comfy.

Finding some great deals on AKG K271's on EBay lately for under $100. Very nice reviews all over the place.
