mbox2/pro tools monitoring question

i just got a mbox 2 and installed pro tools. when the mbox 2 is plugged in there is zero latency monitoring, but when i hit record in pro tools the monitoring becomes latent. is there a way to turn monitoring off in protools like there is in garageband? or is there a way to fix the latency?
