For those interested in Giga-Sampler type things, linuxsampler.org has a opensource replacement.

www.linuxsampler.org/windows.html
There's several people on reaper board that are much more happy with the LS, compared to GS.
Plus, it's free =).
On their pages somewhere, there's links to free .gig samples, download page, i think.

Jan 12, 2008 04:20 pm Wow. All I can say is that is quite impressive. Especially since I run ubuntu studio on dual-boot. I will certainly keep my eye on this project. Gotta love open source :D

Jan 12, 2008 09:24 pm Hey, since you mentioned US, there's a guy over on the reaper board, that has run into tons of problems running gigastudio over a certain number of voices.
Now with LS and Reaper under Wine in US, he's getting like 300 voices and 150 channels, or something like that. A lot more than he ever got with GS, plus reliably too.
Here's a snippet:

So if you have a lot of instruments and articulations like me, in gig format, you can load em up to the gunwales, limited only by your hardware. I used to get between 700-800mb worth of instrument/samples in Gigasampler in Win, before it spat the dummy, and usually crashed hard. (BSOD, i don't miss it at all.)
In LS, and with room to breathe, i'm getting 2.4GB of instrument samples, and with (so far) 156 sample instruments loaded. I have 4GB of ram,so there's quite a bit of headroom.

p.s. A quick update on the mighty Linuxsampler.
After further tweaks, i can now access just over 300 voices, and load, after revision, approx 150 channels with all manner of articulations, etc..

Here's the linky to the thread. It's a long one but really full of useful stuff, and links:

I don't know if the same type of numbers are possible on a windows PC, but it sure looks good for Linux / US.

Jan 14, 2008 12:37 am Not to get offtopic here, but there's another project in development kinda in the same vein, but oriented towards VST.
it's called Jucetice.
www.anticore.org/jucetice/
I've been reading up on it now and again, and the guy looks like he's making progress. If he pulls it off well, I may be using rosegarden a lot more ;)
Heck, LS itself is probably a good reason for me to use rosegarden more. I'll have to give LS a look in ubuntu when I get some free time hehe.

edit: Actually upon re-reading Jucetice is centered around Jost, which is a "multi technology (vst / ladspa / dssi) native host for linux." Kinda cool.
