Golden Globe Cancellation

I was reading the local paper (the one I work at) and it had a story about the impact of the cancellation. They say the exposure new actors get set them up in some cases for additional attention from the later Academy Awards, just good face time...they had examples of how Jolie was ignored for a great role in Girl, Interrupted then won a globe (and has two great globes in her own right) and she was all of a sudden on everybody's radar...

I guess I never knew, or cared about any of that, and really, I guess I don't care any more now, but it is interesting trickledown.

That said, it is unfair these actors are making millions while writers...you know, the people that GIVE THOSE ACTORS their parts, their lines and everything, don't...so I do side with the writers, though, really if hollywood as a whole comes tumbling to the ground I wouldn't really loose any sleep.

Actually, probably gain some from less time watching stupid sitcoms...

One bad part of this that I can see, is that the actors who have piles of $$$ already, can go years without work. Whereas the writers, with piles of ¢¢¢ can't last that long. Hopefully they can get some better recognition (and compensation) soon.

Good point about the length without work possible, I didn't think of that.

But I am guessing the actors are missing their limelight...which hurts more than money to some of those ostentatious bastages.

The more cable channels I get, the less content there is. I find myself watching more and more DVDs. Every week we buy at least two or three, mostly classic movies and TV shows. I'd cancel my cable service, but I'd miss the five or ten channels that I actually watch. Why isn't cable TV a la carte? We should only pay for the channels we actually watch. I'm sick of paying over $100 a month for six Spanish language channels, FUSE, Oxygen, and the rest of the wasted bandwidth.

Hollywood and Studio City have lapsed into unconsciousness.

Ha, I might actually pay for cable, if all I had to pay for was Cartoon Network and FSN Bay Area.

I can watch reruns of Scrubs until the day I die and be happy.

I love that show...

Science channel for me. Those eco-tech and invention nation type shows are the bomb.

I could easily drop the 5 home shopping network channels we get =(.

We're supposed to be on the 'family' plan, not 'spinster with a disposable income' plan.

On a related note, my town's local cable company guy just found me out, that I do internet/development work, and have been in networking in the past. He wants to get me on board for some new local projects he has coming up.

Should be a nice addition to my 4-day a week job, plus give me some new experience, and good networking. Plus learn some about the cable/internet industry.

cable!? I might get that where I live... 100ft outside their territory last I checked...

But I finally made the switch to Digital Broadcast... main improvement is the 4 channels of PBS... each with separate programing...

I'm buying a lot of DVDs now too... especially the 'classic bundles' ...
