so im absolutely new and i will get right down to it. i got an alesis 12 usb mixer and im recording into a pc with cubase le. first thing is im getting no sound at all. the mixer lights are lighting up but when i hit record i get no sound. (im recording a guitar right in btw) when i use audacity it records but very low volume, even though gain and volume are almost maxed. also when i do record something in audacity it only plays through my computer speakers, how do i play out headphones plugged into the mixer. finally what would be the best thing to buy to run my guitar through to get the best quality. i know im a noob but please just bear with me. thanks so much

Jan 05, 2008 01:25 am I'm not familiar with Cubase, but You need to make sure in the Audio options that it is using the USB sound device for it's input & output and not onboard audio or other soundcard in your computer.
Line6 (TonePort Ux), Roland/Boss (GT8), & Digitech (RP series) have excellent amp/effect modelers for using with your guitar or you can just mic your amp it all depends on what you want spend. Or you can go the software route with Guitar Rig, Amplitube, etc.
As far as the volume problem you may need one of the above mentioned modelers or a pre-amp to get the guitar signal to line level.

Jan 05, 2008 02:55 pm If your amp has a headphone or line-out connection then yes you could run your amp direct to your mixer, but unless it's one of the newer modeling amps it probably won't sound very good, but it doesn't hurt to try.
