This is a cover of a cover. :) Original was done by Golden Earing. A band called The Godz did a cover. I never heard the original, but I have the album The Godz put out that included the cover. I was going through all my old albums and said to myself it would be fun to do. So here it is. As usual I struggle with the drums and vocals. Let me know how it sounds. I always try and play a mix on all my stuff before posting but didnt this one. Click the link below to start the tune. The intro is kind of cool and I recorded it kind of hot so turn down your speakers.

Dec 31, 2007 03:08 pm I had a chance to listen on my home system and pc speakers. I raised the vocals and right quitar track. Still sucks :) but it is more even.

Dec 31, 2007 03:30 pm I think it sounds great. The only thing that sounds a little off is that the vocal sounds too wide. Maybe a little too much verb on it as well, but overall, very well done. I like the guitar layering you have going on, very well done. :)
Dec 31, 2007 04:03 pm Thanks. My vocals stink and I always double them. Most of the time. I hate my singing and doubling/delaying them makes them more tolerable to me. Thanks for the listen. I really need to focus on room acoustics to get a better sound. I hope to tackle that this spring. Ive got 900 sq. ft. to place traps on.
Dec 31, 2007 07:16 pm Good job on the guitar and drum parts ...I liked it a lot. The vocals aren't too bad...but I think they would be better if they were a little tighter together. It sounds a bit delayed or out of sinc. I understand about doubling the vocals...I do the same to mine as I don't like my voice that much either. Good job overall though.
Dec 31, 2007 08:53 pm I gonna get rid of the double track vocals and redo the drum mix. Learning process. After listening for a few times the snare and bass drum dont sit well

Jan 01, 2008 03:20 pm You can try using a chorus effect or something rather then doubling and spacing them far apart. The chorus will be a little smoother. But ya, cool guitar sound for sure, and interesting intro.
Jan 01, 2008 09:29 pm I put the intro back to its original length. I like it that way. I redid the drums to get them more out front (was pointed out to me they were lacking :)). They are better now, but alot of the fidelity is lost during the coversion to the 128 mp3 format. The original mix sounds pretty good on my vintage stereo system. I think it came out ok for what I have to work with. My live room needs to be treated. So I dont have the best acoustics. I'll get to that this spring. Also I worked on the Bass guitar. And got rid of the double tracked vocals. Its no where professional, but I dont have professional recording equipment. And Im a jack of all trades (instruments), master of none. :)
Jan 01, 2008 09:38 pm To my non-professional home recordist ears, this sounds pretty good! I've never heard the Godz version, but the Golden Earring version rocks. You've done it justice.
If anything, the vocals need to come out front a bit. We all have a tendency to hide that which we are not happy with. Your vocals aren't as bad as you think they are!
Great guitar work on this song!
Jan 01, 2008 09:55 pm Thanks. The new mix I just put up is alot better than the first. I need to be more forcefull with my singing. But when I do, my pitch is all over the place. My drumming hurts me also. If its a fast song I tire out pretty quickly and have problems with keeping the beat. Slow songs I can do :). Thanks for the listen. The new mix is better.
