Hello,
I would like to know something about recording on this (Line6 TonePort UX2) machine.
1. Will my recording in ie. Sonar consist of only 2 tracks? I mean if I connect a guitar, bass and 2 mics for drums into UX2 it will come out as 2 track recording? I would like to have 4 tracks, is there any other piece of HW that can do this? I just do not get the whole "1/2 and 3/4" thing.
2. Isn't it better to get a lets say Line6 Pad and Bass Pad and a digital mixer instead?
Thank you.

Dec 26, 2007 01:46 pm You don't want to connect all four at once...the two instruments or two mics...
...and yes, it would be a stereo mix...
Dec 26, 2007 02:08 pm Well, to be honest I want to connect all four at once as I would like to record a simple demo with my band and I want to record live and I want the recording to be seperated in as many tracks as posible. I don't need stereo. So you say that i should use standart effects and a mixer?
Dec 26, 2007 02:11 pm That's fine, but you do NOT want to do that. Plug it into a mixer, and the mixer into the line in;'s of the UX2...while I am not sure, I don't think you are allowed to (or supposed to) use all for at once, it's two channel, you have a choice of line or mic ins, not both.
I think...

Dec 26, 2007 02:23 pm I'd bet that presence of a connection in the 1/4" input will disable the XLR input.
Course, I'm only guessing.
Recording a whole band with the UX2 will be difficult, as you can only record 2 channels at once. You could get all sources mixed correct on the mixer, then send L & R signal out of the mixer over to the 2 line inputs on the UX2.
You couldn't mix anything later. You'd have 2 tracks, possibly stereo, if you tell your software to make it a stereo track, instead of 2 mono tracks.
M-Audio makes 4 inputs interfaces (delta44 & 66) plus a 8 analog input interface (delta 1010 & 1010lt). Many others make 4 and 8 (or above) input interfaces, but Maudio is a good start for consumer / entry level stuff.

Dec 27, 2007 12:23 am Couldn't you just record each instrument seperate? Then mix it later on the computer.
Dec 27, 2007 02:40 am 1/4 inch and XLR CAN be used together.
You need a UX8 - it has 8 inputs
On the Toneport you can only use two inputs at once and it outputs a stereo track or two separate mono's (one for each selected input). Only a mixer in front can provide enough inputs and only a UX8 or another product can output more than the 2 tracks.

Dec 27, 2007 09:13 am Yes, Randal, you can, but in the original poster's question , it seemed he wants to record whole band at once.
Dec 27, 2007 04:17 pm The UX2 will only let you use 2 inputs at the same time
Dec 29, 2007 06:08 pm If you're looking to record around 4 inputs at once, I'd suggest an M-audio. Don't buy a presonus firebox, no disrespect to anyone who has one, but they've been very problematic for me, and half of the people that belong to the presonus message board.
