Dec 17, 2007 09:41 pm A wonderful singer and song writer indeed. I went to many of his shows and loved his music. Still own most of his older stuff on vinyl of course. Even tried my hand at covering some of his older stuff in my younger days.
Enjoy the rock and roll heaven Dan! I know I'll miss ya.
Dec 17, 2007 11:26 pm i knoww his name, but what were his most famous songs?
Dec 18, 2007 06:46 pm When I was in college, I met a girl who was REALLY into Dan Fogelberg. So, of course, I quickly went out and bought a few of his albums and learned how to play a bunch of his songs...trying to impress her. I really came to love his music.
The girl dumped me, but I never stopping like Fogelberg's music.
Noize, I'm with you...every time I hear "Leader of the Band" I think of my own dad, and I get a little misty myself.

Dec 18, 2007 08:33 pm Jim your gonna laugh when I tell ya why it does it to me. The song reminds me of Weird Als father Frankie. Yes I'm talking Frankie the Polka Frankie. He was a huge advocate for musicians in this area and worked to provide a musicians network and things to help us all get past being ripped off by the major labels and promoters of the time. He worked countless hours for no pay to help many of us out. But my biggest memory is of watching him lead his band. He was the first real Polka king I had ever seen. And this song still to this day reminds me of him.

Dec 18, 2007 09:34 pm Noize great pull on the youtube video, man that was a nice performance.
Such a great songwriter, he was one of the few that could tell you a whole story inside of a few minutes. He will be missed.
Dec 19, 2007 07:51 am Noize...not wierd at all. Having grown up in the Twin Cities, I remember hearing about and reading about Frankie Yankovic. (But I didn't know it was Wierd Al's Father!) I love polka music.
It's interesting how different songs mean different things to different people. That, right there, is why I love music!
Dec 19, 2007 09:15 am Funny, I always thought Frankie was Al's dad too, but all of the Internet bios say they're not related.

Dec 19, 2007 06:45 pm Herb that is odd. We all learned that he was. He is a year younger then I am, and though it was never actually brought up in conversation with Frankie I think we all assumed since he had tons of stuff to him from even a very young Al that he was his son.
I don't think any one I know from back then ever even questioned it.
This is going to make me have to venture back to the old neighborhood now and question some of the old duffer's. At least the ones that are still alive. As some of them even portrayed Al as being Frankies son.
Could it be many of us were fooled into thinking that just to instill more trust in Frankie himself? Al wasn't even that famous back then. Just kind of a wiz kid.
