The Mitchell Report

Is anyone else curious what this will consist of?

For those under a rock that don't know, it's a report covering major league baseball's steroid problem, naming names of athletes that have been caught using it, clubhouse personnel that have known and not said anything...

A total tell-all against MLB...

...can't wait to see the fall out...

sheesh! MLB still hasn't quite recovered from the strike...lord knows how this will affect it.

could you imagine MLB withering down to something like the PBA?

I gave up on MLB years ago, after the first strike when people bitched that a million a year wasn't enough and all that...

...personally, I'd love to see them clean house and shake it up, give these jackasses a reality slap...

Baseball, in itself, is a great sport, but like many great sports, the professional version of it sucks due to corruption, ego and the general sense of entitlement.

i played little league for about 4 years as a kid. love to play baseball. listened to it on AM radio for many years as a kid. the pirates had one almost-championship year in 1990, and after that i just lost interest. there's barely any parity in the league so it doesn't interest me. i mean, i hadn't even heard the words 'toronto blue jays' mentioned in about 12 years. they're still a team? it was news to me. things just don't seem to change up in MLB very much, so i have no interest in following all those games.

if the structure of it all could change--if it really became competitive somehow--maybe i would. i dont know quite how it works, but i have no hope for my home team.

im looking forward to the report. I think there will be lots of surprises. I used to be a die hard Pirates fan. I lost all interest in MLB because the top teams are usually a result of an outlandish payroll. The team with the most CASH wins(with a few exceptions) Ill stick to minor league baseball.

When I was a kid, collecting baseball card (OK, in the late 70's) The Pirates were a great team, had some great and memoriable players...among my fav teams too back when I gave a crap.

yeah collecting cards was part of the whole thing some great childhood memories. Willie Stargell and Dave Parker were my two favs.

Clemens and Pettitte made the report.

no big surprise there.

The same two I had in mind...

A few weeks back I had to take away my oldest's favorite toy for a week as a consequence of bad behavior...she was mortally wounded by it. The prompted a conversation between us, I explained that's just a way I have to get through how important some things are. I explained when I was a kid and my dad had to make a point with me, it was my baseball cards he'd hide for a while...she asked about them, what I did with them and such.

I said "hey, wanna see 'em" we walked downstairs, I pulled out my boxes of cards (I have about 5k of them or so) and showed them to her, explained some of my favorite players, what they did, how good they were, showed her my "felon collection" and explained how they did bad things and ended up getting in trouble...

We were down there for quite a while...it wound up being a great little bonding experience for us.

Mine are all packed away, some in protective albums or plastic frames, some just in card boxes...but all in decent shape.

those topps cards always came with a gold or silver shiny card--an all star card?--if you were lucky. or maybe each pack had at least one. i liked those because they were shiny. i collected the cards indiscriminately.

the pirates also had that weird sidearmed pitcher, kent tekulve
