notch eq (additive) and mid/side decoding (if the vox are mono, and everything else is kinda panned out) are the best way's i can think of to get at 'em...did she record it herself? or have someone else record her?

Yep, a good parametric EQ pluggin would be a good place to start. Hopefully the vox were recorded in mono which will make it a tad easier. But there is no easy way to do it. You will have to start out with a single band on the EQ and use a narrow Q setting. Then simply set it to boost the frequency a little bit and sweep it up and down slowly until you find the spot that brings the vox out a little bit. Then try boosting it a little more and possibly even widen the Q a little. You may even find that you will need a second stage of EQ. If so simply follow the same procedure and you will get it.

It is a matter of trial and error finding the exact sweet spot that brings them out.

Multiband compressor maybe?

Tripps has got it pretty well right. It might be better to use that kind of tool and give it a try similar to the description I gave above.

Uh, at least one more time . . .

If you have access to the "makeshift studio," can't you go there and just solo the vocal and deal with it that way? Are you talking about trying the EQ on the stereo track on the CD? Throw the CD away and go to the source--assuming the vocals were recorded separately.

Well on centavo you might stand a slim chance of getting them to come forward a little bit by using the technique we described above with a multi band compressor. For the other track, permeation it will be almost impossible to do. The reason being is the huge reverb on the vocal that is part of the reason it is buried so far back in the mix. That and there is absolutely no EQ that has been done to the vocal on that track at all. It is nothing but low end frequency that is blurred even more by the huge reverb that they used on the vocal.

The reverb was used way to heavily on both tracks but at least there is enough of the vocal present to try and brign it forward in the centavo track. But that second track is pretty much a lost cause.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

But in all honesty, if they paid someone to mix those tracks I would be asking for my money back or getting the raw tracks and letting someone else mix them.

If they recorded it themselves then I would see if they have the raw tracks and try and get them to upload them so you can get at them and remix it properly.

Ya, that is going to be a tuff one to try and pull off. If there is any way for them to send you the individual tracks I would opt for that.

unfortunately the individual tracks dont exist. I'm just going to have to rerecord her voocals here in my studio. and manipulate the track i guess.

Ya, honestly that sounds like the only real good option you have.

Good luck with it and let us know how it turns out.
