Variax Sound Samples

Well I'll start by apologizing for being the worlds worst guitarist.

I recorded 5 samples, and double recorded them, one clean, one through a bassman amp sim.

Variax to POD XTL via variax connector
Line Outs of XTL to Line In of Toneport
Left Side Clean
Right Side Bassman

There's a Variax model reference sheet here
www.vettaville.net/Variax...heet%200606.pdf

Guitars used
Tele1 = 1960 Telecaster Custom Bridge
Tele2 = 1968 Telecaster Series Pickups
Strat1 = 1960 Strat Bridge
LP1 = 1958 Les Paul Standard Bridge
Semi = 1959 Gretsh 6120 Bridge

Edit:

OK the forum turning the samples into playable files doesn't work so here's a website

www.homemadehitshow.com/V...riaxSamples.htm

Those were some pretty darn convincing examples. I don't have all the amps to compare it to but I have the guitars. I'm impressed. In the dark ages back in the late 70's in a band I was in we use to attempt a Roy Buchanan tribute thing in part of our show. It was actually pretty cool Roy was still living in this area and we were one of the few bands (well Danny Gatton was around ....thats another story) willing to try his stuff.I say that meaning it was unique. A black guy try to play Roy was different at the time. So it went over pretty good. But I would have used those sounds without question thats incredible.

I really appreciate the chance to hear it. Believe me my ear is not so great. But I did play a Tele off an on over the years and thats mighty close if not dead on. Heck if you were to play 2 guitars with humbuckers I sure as heck couldn't tell what the 2 types were. Maybe its the tele Twang thang.

Ya, a Tele and Strat are 2 very distinguishable tones. I worked for years to get my Frankenstein Ibanez tweaked to get those tones. In the end it mostly revolved around the custom made DiMarzio pick ups, coil tapping them. And believe it or not the neck added bonus to the twang of it.

But the coil tapped pick ups are what gave it the ability to get a good deal of different tones.
