This is a song that forms part of a story that I am writing. Here a refugee is overjoyed to be granted into Canada. Later in the story, reality hits and optimism fades. Would love feedback on writing and production:

Nov 04, 2007 06:50 am I have remixed the song with bass levels adjusted, vox (ld and bk) reverb levels adjusted, wider panning and crashes with body added.
Any thoughts and feedback welcome:

Nov 04, 2007 07:24 pm This is a bit different then In the Name of Paradise for sure.
I'm not a big country fan so I can't really critique it for the writing part. On the production end, I will say it has a pretty good swing feel to it. I think the vocals are sitting a little out front yet though. Maybe a different reverb might help settle them into the mix a bit.
Otherwise interesting piece for sure.
Nov 05, 2007 08:38 pm Hey, I enjoyed this! Sounds like you're making a musical or a story with music? Enjoyed it very much! Audio sounds a little too closed up, small room except those backup vocals, which are really deep. Song is a lot of fun!

Nov 06, 2007 10:54 pm One final remix. For those who have helped me along with this- many, many thanks. I have worked on the following:
- cleaned up cymbals
- eq'ed to help elements sit better in the mix
- bought clarity to the mix by using less reverb and also mixing in some delay instead.
- bought some dynamics to the mix by riding faders a little more.
- Used a little more compression overall.
- Bought separation between backing vox and lead vox.
That is it. Must move on to the next song. Once more many thanks to all.
Any comments and thoughts welcome as ever.
Cheers

Nov 07, 2007 05:30 pm Wow, nice change for sure. You have some great separation there now. And the drums sound much better all of a sudden. Everything is sitting very nicely now in the mix.
The vocals both lead and background are sounding very good as well now.
Nicely done for sure.
Nov 07, 2007 06:24 pm Oh yeah! MUCH better, much more live sound and the drums sit very pretty in the mix. Vocals 100% clearer!
