I got iZotope Ozone 3 yesterday for mastering and I'm not sure how to use it. I open my stereo track in Sonar 6 and open izotope, but I never the any controls. It shows as initialized, but I can't see the console and the Help file is useless for troubleshooting. Any ideas?

bah, i wasted my money on that plug and it's more or less 'worthless'....i'm not sure why you can't adjust the controls, but you're not missing much....that program just taught me how to use multiband compression....then i learned i never needed it in the first place....use sonar's plug's, they're every bit as good as anything that iSitOnSoap has to offer IMO...

i'm still mad that i paid for it....'stereo widener' bah! i poop on you.

I totally disagree.

I've got Ozone and i love it.

Granted, though, if you know how to master you dont need it. (i do not)

I use it after the finzal Mixdown and just use it as an insert effect. Everything works fine.

I use Cubase but its the same thing.

Disagree as well. I stick it on the mix bus religously to see how it will sound, and sometimes its a keeper. Also its great for radically changing the sound of instruments like problematic guitars.

So you cant see any of the controls keith?

Ozone is fantastic, I have to think Whos is thinking of something else because it's got more adjustable controls that you can imagine.

They have fantastic manuals on the website, these manuals are great even if you don't have Ozone because they teach you all about mastering.

My favorite features are

1) The ability to copy an EQ curve (from a pro CD) and apply it to a track (similar to harbal I think)
2) The multiband exciter (mainly cause it sounds sexy)
3) and the presets which make it so easy to A/B ideas.

Ozone can work standalone or as a plug in. I've never used stand alone. As a plug in you have to add it to your track or master track as a VST then it should work just like any other VST.

Standalone I believe you load up the WAV file into the application.

Keith, you have Sonar 6 PE if I remember correctly. That comes with the VC 64 pluggin which is a killer master pluggin. Multi band compression and the whole nine yards.

Well that finally explains the lack of wrzth in your mixes.

A Finzal Mixdown is the new way of doing things guys.

It's similiar to a Final mixodwn but with added Z.

Get with the program.

Yeah, tell me about it. Geez guys.

I talked to the fine iZotope people, who subsequently ran me around in circles. I just decided to demand a refund... and got it. So I put that money down on Dimension Pro, and I gotta tell ya; Dimension Pro is the 'shizzle' as the kids say. I had to throw a Z in there for Bleak. He tries yamnit!!

P.S. I decided that since my music is comprised of 90% soft synths; only 2 live tracks, guitar and vocals, that with the right gain staging something like Ozone is a waste of cash. I'm just going to use Buzzrizer and Baxxpander, 2 free plug-ins for mastering that are working out kinda well so far.

Thanks guys for all your help and humor; it seems that just when I reach the brink of tossing my computer out the window you jump in and save my ***. (or my computers rather) I deeply appreciate this site being here.

i hear ya keith, Ozone never really helped much (on it's own) but i've got multiband compression, reverb, limiter (sorry "maximizer"), and eq plugs that all do the job just fine....really the "stereo widener" trick this plug has up it's sleeve, and even then, it's a gimmick anyway (not to offend anyone)....i dropped cash thinkin' it'll make my music better, and i've learned to work with what i have, and i found out i already had those same plugs in my stock Sonar setup.....i'm not gonna demand a refund, but it's not any sort of 'go-to' plug to me.

Keith, glad to hear your liking Dimension Pro. I have most of the RGC Audio stuff or now Cakewalk stuff since they bought RGC. Rene is a genius and created some killer stuff.

Did you grab the free expansion packs as well? There is some good stuff in there as well. I grabbed Rapture as well and am liking that too. 6 elements in that one over the 4 in Dimension. It is more oriented to electronic music with the factory patches though. But I love having the multiple elements to combine to create new patches.
