Those links don't do much...but yes, essentially a mix and recorder is all you need, but depending on the recorder a compressor might be nice, maybe a preamp and multi-effects unit, however, for a grassroots effort a mic and recording deck is all you need...just don't expect professional results.

Welcome to HRC (Can I say that if I'm not a mod?).

How serious do you want to get into this? It's a process. I'd suggest reading through as many of the articles that are scattered around HRC as possible, go into some threads to get an idea of where everyone's head is, and in the meantime keep thumping away. It's the practice, and the familiarity with the equipment at hand that will render results - not necessarily having all the equipment...

That mic (one of the links didn't open) is a reasonable condensor. However, you will need phantom power to run it, and I doubt that your recorder will deliver 48VDC. So you'll need some method of providing phantom power. I'd probably suggest a small mixer (which will act as a patchbay too) rather than a phantom power block. A four channel Behringer or similar is about the same price! Right, now you have to record it. If this is something that you think you might get into more (home recording), you'll likely outgrow a digital recorder. I'd probably suggest that you get a PC based DAW - there are some cool freebies/cheapie out there (Reaper, nTrack, Krystal etc. - READ THE ARTICLES AND THREADS IN HRC), and a recording sound card (not Sound Blaster anything...trust me).

I started with a digital recorder and it now plays the part of a glorified effects processor/DI. I use my DAW as my main recording platform.

Fill out your profile with what you have in terms of equipment (you'd be surprised at how much stuff can be used for various tasks!), and be patient. You've posted on a Friday, and few haver in HRC on the weekends.

Good luck.

Oh...
And be polite, and ask sensible questions and you'll be amazed at the knowledge that's here.

I'm amazed on a daily basis.
