Microphone trick....

This trick entails the use of 1 styrofoam cup, and your favorite mic, we used a sm58.

This gives a weird telephone effect to live recording and a cool distorted effect if you add some warm fuzz to it in sound forge. You simply put the cup over the mic, and let it sit on there vibrating on the grill while you sing on it.

My brother uses this effect live on one of our songs since our band's budget doesn't allow for a voice box. You can just use this as an effects mic if you only want to use it on certain parts of your song, if you have access to a gate that would help out or you can just sing into it and put a 57 to the side of your mouth, that's another variation.
