Cubase LE Editing Help

Hello all. So this question will definetely showcase my lame home recording know-how, but I need the help.
I'm recording bass right now and while I'm a competent bass player, the levels are all over the place.
I'm recording through my Ashdown 250 head, DO to a tascam 144 usb, and trackin in cubase LE.
As is I'm just selecting individual notes/passages and normalizing things one at a time, but it is taking forever and it's not ideal.
Does anyone know how of a function that allows one to somehow set equal levels throughout a track? Thanks.

A 'compressor' will automatically adjust the volume through out a track.

A 'limiter' is similar...

cubase probably comes with both.
