okay, so after some birthday money and a lot of saving (plus some advice from here a few months ago), i now have a nice little home studio setup.

-lexicon omega audio interface...comes with cubase LE

-axiom 61 key KEY MIDI controller

-akg mic, not the problem though

basically NOTHING has gone right since i got any of this... of course the douchbags at guitar center are no help. Someone please give an overview of how to set up cubase to work with all my stuff. some error messages have included: Audio engine error- no audio input (or output), no record file, audio engine cannot be started. argh so many. on top of that, i bought a 50 dollar dvd thats useless, and nobody i know can help. also, i dont think i have any sounds (is that VST plugins?) unless some come with cubase. anyone know where i can get some free or on the cheap to get started??

any help is SO FU**KIN appreciated its hardly even funny

Lets start from the beginning here. Some specs on your PC, like CPU type and speed, amount of RAM and so on would be a good place to start.

That will help solve the audio engine problem. Which by the way sounds like a driver issue. So maybe do a complete un install and the re install the drivers for the Omega.

Then open the help section in Cubase or the manual that came with it and follow through on how to set up your audio and midi devices. Then on how to choose the device to be used for playback and recording on each channel.

$50 DVD???? What has that got to do with your set up??

And exactly what are you looking for when you say sounds?? Do you mean software synths or what?

yeah i'd definitely do an uninstall and start over....

follow the 'quick start' guide if it came with one....also what are your speakers hooked up to? they should be plugged into the Lexicon and not the computer's soundcard.

I also have the Lexicon Omega and I had problems with it from day one. Whenever I rebooted my computer Windows would not recognize Lexicon in the Device Manager and I'd have to reset the Lexicon. I called tech support three times and they always assured me I wouldn't have to reset it everytime I restarted the comp. The last time it wouldn't even reset so now I have to send it to Utah for repair. When it works I like it. Hopefully this fix will set it straight.

As for Cubase, I uninstalled that and use Cool Edit Pro, which I find more agreeable and easier to use (at least for me).

Another thing, when you're not using youe Lexicon either unplug it or do what I did and get a power strip just for the Lexicon and turn that off when not in use.

Like the others suggested, uninstall everything and start over. Follow the Omega instructions for driver installation step by step and then let us know how it's working.

Oh, and one more thing; I agree they're douches at Guitar Center. They upsell noobs like us and always have some policy on why they can't accept a return. Of the two songs on my profile one was recorded with the Lexicon and one was recorded with the mic plugged directly into the mic jack on my sound card. Tell me which is which.

great voice there Pal...

I'd say 'If I ruled the World' was the sound card... it seemed to strain in the louder parts. The country song was more 'crisp' and picked up some plosives with the 'k's...
