Question about building tracks w/ Alesis Micron

I bought the Micron about a month ago, and I'm learning something new about its functionality every day. I have run into a wall here, and I'm hoping someone can assist me.

In the "patterns" mode, I have created a new pattern, using the "record" function, and sent it to a new "setup".
Now, I want to record a second pattern (w/ a different "program" or sound) that works with the first one, and send that to the new setup I created.

My question is this: When I go to record the second pattern, the metronome begins to click, but I want to ALSO hear the FIRST pattern playing as I record the second, so that it gels correctly. Can this be done internally?

Thanks in advance.

I don't really see that it is capable of doing that. But if it is it should be in the manual. If you don't have one you can download it from this page. Go to the synths section for the Micron manual and quick start guide and stuff.

I have the manual, but there's nothing I can find to verify that it's possible.

Manuals don't always explain everything, I've found.

Yeah, I agree, Cakewalk is the only company that makes decent users manuals any more...

I re read the page tonight and it looks as if you can build simple layers, but they are not exactly clear if you can build layers of sequences or simply layers of sounds.

I'll ask around but I am not sure if I can get an answer either.

Oh, you can build layers of rhythms, patterns AND programs... But I'm trying to hear ONE pattern (that I built and sent to a setup) as I create the SECOND pattern. I can send as many of these as I wish to the setup. I just can't be sure how well one will work w/ the other, because I can't hear pt. 1 while I'm creating part 2.

Ya, I understood that part. I just don't see anywhere in there documentation that shows or even says you can do that.

I would maybe suggest an email to their support, or possibly a phone call might be in order. I have not used that synth really, and don't know if any other users here even own it.

Maybe someone will crawl on up and give some insight into the thing.

Well I asked my two friends and got interesting answers.

One says he doesn't know because he just likes the sounds he gets with the easy stuff.

The other says Micron is a piece of crap and he doesn't use it anymore (this is not a pro MK comment but he moved up to some Roland thing).

Sorry.

I am sure there is a Alesis or Micron focused forum out there somewhere.

You can record on the Micron, whilst listening to another part. Refer to page 17 of the manual, the part that says: Phrases in Setups mode.

In Setups mode hold down Phrase and start playing the part you want to record while listening to the other parts.

Follow the instructions and you will get it.

Peace.
