firewire q

hey so i have this laptop now and am thinking about using it for music maybe by christmas. it has just one firewire port. these firewire hubs--i assume they're like usb hubs, meaning that you can hook up a few devices into the hub, which'll then go into the one computer port, right? if you were gonna connect an interface as well as, say, three external hard drives, how would you do it? interface probably has to go to firewire, but i use external drives on my current music computer with usb, and it seems to work fine. would it be better to split drives with the firewire or to use dedicated usb ports for each? the sequencing program would run on the main internal drive, samples and virtual instruments would be on another, and projects would be constructed and saved on another. i'm just wondering if this is going to work.

also, anyone know how i can find out how many free memory slots i have inside?

i have no idea about hubs, but as for the memory slots, just take off the side panel of your computer....the RAM is pretty easy to identify....it's a long stick with black rectangle 'chips' on either one side or both....usually most computers have 2 or 4 if you have 4 slots with two cards, you'll see them staggered in every other slot.

There are access panels on the bottom of laptops specicially designed for ram. You might need a screwdriver but it should just pop off and its very simple, you don't have to take the whole thing apart.

Yep, neo is right. It is just one simple little panel with a single small screw on the botom. Nothing will dislodge or anything and you will see if you have dual or single ram slots. Lots of the lower priced units only have one ram slot in laptops, which is a pity.
