can i run programs originally designed for xp on vista? i didn't think it would be possible, but it seems to be. i thought there were more bigtime changes in the OS, but i just successfully (it seems) installed a non-music program on my vista here, which is great, because i really need this program.

anyway, who can fill me in generally on this?

I have been looking into this as well, as I am buying a laptop shortly (17" widescreen HP I think) and I asked a couple friends that have vista and they said they haven't had any problems with any software yet except some MS software (which I find funny) like Visual Studio 2005 for one...but music software, Adobe CS2 and other stuff seems to work fine for them.

yes, a friend of mine has told me that as well. he's able to run his music program on vista. this is a huge sigh of relief. life just got a lot easier now that i have my editing reference materials accessible on this computer.

I wanted to hold of on going to Vista, but I want a laptop and I am not going to go backwards if I don't have to, so what the hell, I am just going to turn lots of **** off in the OS and make sure I have at least 2GB of RAM if not more.
