Weird Radio EQ

The only example I can think of is that I'm pretty sure it's at the beginning and end of Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd. I want to use that effect where it sounds liek the song is coming out of a small, tinny one speaker radio or something. I know Pink Floyd isn't the only common example but it's the only one I can think of. I'm pretty sure it has to do with compression and EQ, but I don't know what exactly needs to be done. Anyone know how to achieve that effect?

Coupla ways:

Roll of the lows and highs (or bandpass) (low at maybe 400 and highs at maybe 3-4k?).

And there are heaps of plugins that do it. One that springs to mind is 'MDA combo'. Hit the radio preset and you're off. I use it all the time on delays and stuuufff.

another neat angle i've heard someone use, is to get a biggish styrofoam cup, and cut a hole in the bottom, big enough to fit the head of a mic, like a 57. Then put the mic grill at the end of the cup, at the hole, and feed your signal into the cup.

Has a neat radio type sound, i've been told (have yet to try it out).

Ya, like mentioned, cut the lows and the highs so you are only left with mids. On WYWH they have a vinyl scratch going on one of the guitar tracks as well.

I just posted a song "Leaving the Past Behind" (in my profile) at at the very end I did this sort of thing. Haha, not sure if I'm going to keep it or not but right now it is there :)

go to an EQ chart and get the main frequency band for the human voice. somewhere between 500 hz and 2 khz if i remember correctly. roll off on both sides of it, suddenly if you want.
