Studio Projects VTB1 & RNC (Balanced/Unbalanced Question)

Apologies if this has been answered already, I couldn't find it.

I used to record with just a Tascam Portastudio DP01FX, no preamps, mixers, etc.

This worked fine for jotting quick song ideas down and such but recently I started adding more gear to the setup.
I bought a RNC and am about to order a pair of VTB-1s.

My question is: If the RNC accepts only unbalanced inputs and the VTB only sends balanced is it a good idea to just grab a couple xlr to 1/4" cables and connect them that way?

In my mind I imagine running things in this order:
MIC-PREAMP-COMPRESSOR-HD RECORDER

Is this a completely wrong idea?

Thanks in advance,
-adam

Makes sense to me.

If your connections are short, I wouldn't worry about the balanced -> unbalanced issue. Balanced only rejects noise created in/on/from the cable, so if they're short, then there should be nothing getting created on it.

That's a bummer the RNC doesn't accept XLR, you'd think that would be a good feature.

And, welcome to the HRC.
