It does look odd though when you watch it closer, but I can't figure out why.

I think the thing that makes it 'feel weird' is that there is no sound...at least in the version on youtube... the original isn't loading in my browser... it feels like it should be noisy but isn't...invoking a cognitive dissonance...
Aug 23, 2007 11:11 pm ok but the entire point of the video is the gorilla, not the counting. the counting is just to narrow your focus so that you miss the gorilla.
Aug 23, 2007 11:28 pm I thought it was the trick to catch the 15 pass which is actually about the 10th pass which you cant see because it is to the girl who is blocked from view and she quickly passes it the other guy. Its hard to catch but it is there if you count off each pass and watch the direction the ball is going.
However, I can see how easily the gorilla gets missed. I was pissed because it blocked my view a couple of times. That is how I noticed it.

Aug 24, 2007 08:40 pm So that is all the test was for huh? Simply to distract people from the idea of the bear and see if counting the passes would be enough distraction? For most I would assume it would be. But my focus was so intense on centering on the 3 people in white, every little thing that got in the way of it was noticed.
I suppose others that are watching the ball only might easily miss the bear coming through and blocking the view of the persons themselves.

Aug 24, 2007 10:20 pm for the other basketball one here, i saw the woman instantly. and i really wasn't looking for her! if anything, i was trying not to see the intrusion, whatever it was gonna be. when only one object is moving steadily among a sea of jerkily-moving objects, it just stands out.
