How about a weekly/fortnightly HRC Radio show?

I assume a podcast type thing.

We could have interviews with various members and there is a heap of Music to play.

I could certainly help spearhead a project like this as i'm between jobs at the moment.

Has this been thrown around before?

I'm sure there would be plenty of interest.

Or at least help someone who has the time and knowledge.

After this weekend I can give a bit of time to help produce it. I've done several things like this in the past for other peeps.

We would need to start with your interview questions that you record and send to the interviewee and myself if I am mixing. Then dB would of course record his answers. This could be done over the phone as well, but that requires equipment I don't own at the moment so we'll bypass that.

If by chance something were to come out of it that needed a possible second part to a question we simply record the second part, or third or fourth. The alternative is to give a couple of alternate secondary questions that might come up in the conversation.

But I have also seen it done via email or live chat, then each party simply records their part of the convo and sends it in to be edited and assembled.

Its not as tough as it sounds.

But the idea does give the chance to surround it with members music as well to fill out a show.

And yes, it has rolled around this head for years as well. I think dB and I have even drank several beers pondering it once or twice over the last how many years.

My PC is set up to do the phone interview.

International calls are pretty cheap from Oz, Especially to the US.

In fact we could do it via phone or VOIP.

I could start work on a show format if that'll help.

Oh God! That would be a hoot! dB and Noise could become the 'click and clack' of project studio recording.

'your plug in makes wierd noises?' Does it still make wierd noises when you pull it out?' 'have you tried sticiking it somewhere else?'

I'd tune in for that!

I have talked to Noize a few times about doing 60-second videos of "quick tip" type things...never have gotten it off the ground, but I still think that's a good idea, too...kind of video answers to FAQ's with visual aids...

I've had that idea in the back of my noggin for a couple years.

Actually, my last one was for some web development site asking me my opinions on various things...no pop star crap involved... :-)

Yeah, Bleak, run with it, I like it. It's a great idea, I just don't have the time...I dunno why but I seem to have lots of demands on my time this year...not sure why I got so popular all of a sudden...it's a mixed blessing at best.

Now the 60-second quicktips videos idea is back at the forefront of my mind too...

I'd be interested in doing something. What about just collectively come up with a bunch of questions to ask? If someone could record the questions and act like a host we could then just punch that in with our responses.

no no no, i think the interviews should be organic. a real conversation. I think a lot of people here "know" each other pretty decently that it could make for interesting conversation/interaction. I'm telling you, skype would be perfect. We could all help compile (aka suggest) questions if the interviewer wants.

Anyhow, here's my list of people I want to see interviewed, pronto!

db
noize
herb
wyd
flame
guitarjim
olddog
tonyd
beerhunter
forty
tallchap
walt (top of the list, actually)
colonelsanders
coco
tadpui

Edit:
pjk
geoff

and I'm sure there are others, but they're slipping my mind

OK, after reading the rest of this thread I am willing to go with this and do the engineering and such. With the help of anyone interested as it seems this has drawn some attention. BeerHunter, I think that is you if your offering that is??

I think since Bleak is set up for this type of thing on his PC and he is the instigator of this thread it would work. I do believe a true conversation, not just canned questions with dry answers and no comeback would be a bit sterile as stated abbove.

As for the Aussie voice being the interviewer, my opinion is it will show that HRC is not just a little American based site, it is truly global.

AS for Herb, if you have heard him in all his glory as I have he is the perfect voice guy for this type of thing.

dB and I just talked and he is willing as I am. We are both horribly overbooked. So I guess I having a little more free time would be willing to be the first interviewee. Although this will have to wait until next week as I finish some of my problem projects, or I should say, piled up over booked projects.

I do also like the idea of a question pool form the members, or at least those willing to participate.

Another member I would like to nominate for the interview list is Rob or robbue1 as he is known now. With the release of his 6th or 7th album pending he would be a wonderful guest. Bleak, can we do a 3 way conversation by chance, I would love to be vocal for that one, since I have been listening to his stuff for awhile now, and have all his music as well.

Anyway, back on topic. Bleak, BH, Herb you guys have my email so lest jump on this and try and set up a timetable and share some ideas.

coolo, do you use Skype? Is Skype the answer to a larger multi user interview type set up? I've only read small bits on it and am not sure I want to become a supernode without knowing it.

Frisco's Most Underrated

i don't know about a multi user set voice interview. I've never personally used skype with voice, only for IMing in the office, as that's what everyone is on here. But lots of people here call overseas on Skype frequently (i believe its free?). But like I said, I don't use it voice wise so I'm not sure if you can have more than a one on one conversation. But let me ask someone real quick...

Edit: apparently you can have up to 5 people at a time. though looking at the software it says up to 9? Either way 3 should be ok.

you just have to set your soundcard properties to record what you hear, everyone here should be able to handle that.

Uuuuuhhhhhhh, Noize? When did I say I am willing for what? What I will say is that I will stamp this as an official piece of HRC media (so Bleak can use the name or acronym in the broadcast) and that I think it's a great idea...as far as time to donate to product it, well, that is another matter...I have my time dedicated elsewhere...

Now, I gotta go give Bleak mod status so he can get into the back room...we may need to chat privately.

FLAME, I have said this at least one hundred times in this forum.

That very first tune you posted of No Cigs is by far one of my all time favorites to listen to. It is the purest, most unadulterated effective pieces of music I have heard in all my years of involvement in music.

un·a·dul·ter·at·ed
adj.

1. Not mingled or diluted with extraneous matter; pure.

This is my honest opinion on the matter. I promise (maybe) to not tell anyone how you recorded it. But I think it would maybe give some real motivation to those who are just starting out with little or no equipment to speak of. It would show them exactly how good you can get things in the most oppressive situation.

Anyway, I assume you still have the original do you not?? Maybe you should go back and listen to exactly how good it does sound, but remember how you did it and why.

OK, rant over.

I will try and install and sign up for Skype probably on Sunday. I'll let you know when I'm up and running.

And lastly flame, rest assured it is not terrible at all. If it were I would not have kept ranting about it all these years.

The headset looks cool...

I don't always keep my mics and stuff set up like I should. My kids can't seem to keep their hands off my stuff. Plus, I thought you might run into feedback/interference types of issues with the microphone picking up what's coming through the speakers. Is that not an issue?

Perhaps I'll try it with my regular recording setup before I splurge. Good call!

Ne'er ate 'er
Member

I'm using my regular vocal mic and mixer. True feedback isn't an issue because of the delay factor. I used the speakers when I talked to Bleak, and it was fine, but if we record anything, I'll use headphones to avoid having the delayed sound recorded.

Its from the WASP, (Texas Radio). I have heard the expression 'life raft' many times as a reference to people working together. I would imagine the pyramid is a symble of something accomplisned that was monumental. As for the 'escaping' MHO; that is simple. He didn't have much reverence or desire to be a part of 'reality' as it presented itself at that time. I see it fitting for much of what happens here at HRC. That's a complement by the way.

Thanks for the add, flame! I'll have Skype on for the next couple of hours if anyone wants to call and check their connection or BS for a minute. I'll be in and out so let it ring or I'll get back to you.

Guitar Jim, did you get your girly headset? Heeheehee

Oh, and if anyone wants to add me, it's Steve Moser.

flame, it was even simpler then that. I shouldn't say though until peeps get to hear it and then let them try to figure out how you did it. I'll email you tomorrow and give you the skinny on it.

But to answer, yes I have two versions of it. One that was done later with a bit more equipment then you had for the first one, or was it a remix by someone. I don't recall at the moment. But ya, I still have the original. I have it on a drive I just switched out and will be popping it in tomorrow to get it out for upload. I'll let you know before I let anyone else hear it though.

Bleak, All the gear I own is either old, been reviewed already, or just plain uninteresting :-0. Thanks for the offer though.

I'll try to have the Skype open this weekend if you want to chatter.

What about some tech tips? Some little work around you have with some gear or good compression settings for mongolian throat singing?

This weekend might be difficult, it's a Grand final weekend for both the AFL and NRL.

Infact you can catch the NRL Final on

Bleak, yep I'm still digging. I'm trying to find the oldest stuff I can so we can kind of hint to the beginnings of HRC with the first show.

Me too.

You're mistaking me, Coolo, for someone who knows what the h.e. hockeysticks they are doing!

I need in on this, what's the format going to be again?
