Groove tubes brick output

hello, interested in buying the brick but i noticed it only has a xlr balanced output. this concerns me because i like connecting my preamp to my RNC. the RNC manual states that hooking up the RNC to balanced lines with TRS 1/4" plugs will not work. so i need the input to the RNC to be TS and i already have TS to RCA which connects to my soundcard. im having trouble finding monster xlr to ts cables, what are some other good cable brands? also i have a xlr male to xlr female cable so i could just get an adapter but im not sure what brand to get and if it would affect the quality of the signal

Well, you won't find XLR - TS cables because that would be balanced going to unbalanced. Though you can mod a cable to be balanced to unbalanced. If you put a TRS into that RNC, it'll still pass signal.

Why would you want to connect a preamp to the Republican National Committee? Aren't they loud and distorted enough already?

Just a joke there; move along now ;-)

Honestly, using the Brick in that manner will not do much for the sound. It will help give a condenser the phantom power it needs. But the tube mic pre will just end up adding noise through that signal chain. You may not notice it but it will be there in the end product once levels are maxxed.

They run strictly balanced out for a reason on gear like that. It helps keep the line noise levels under control.

And feeding into an RCA, what sound card is it?

ya, know (and not to dis your pre), i thought for sure, using a brick for a bass DI would be sweet....after trying it, i actually went with the stock mackie pre on the D8B....don't get me wrong, it's a mighty fine pre, but my point is don't think that just because it's a 'good outboard unit' means it's good for everything.....A/B test it with whatever you got, that's how you'll learn when to use it and when not.
