I posted the other day about an issue with my MXL M.A.R.K. recording rather soft, so I went to Guitar Center today and picked up a Lexicon Omega Desktop.
I installed all the drivers per the instructions. Hooked everything up properly, followed all instructions to the bone. I should say I don't have any headphones hooked up to the Omega. I don't have any headphones with a 1/4" plug.
My questions are:
Why can't I hear what I record through the speakers on my PC? Is Omega now in control?
Do I have to use Cubase to record with? I'd rather use Cool Edit for everything. If I'm stuck with Cubase how come I can only save files as Cubase Project Files? Why not WAVs?
Basically, I don't even know if buying this interface has solved my mic issue beacuse I can't hear what I recorded in the mic test I made.
Any help is appreciated as I'm on the verge of a breakdown. I'm halfway into the straight jacket. It's been three solid weeks of trying to get this mic to work acceptably, hundreds upon hundreds of dollars and I'm still where I started. August '07 has been miserable thus far.

Aug 18, 2007 11:47 pm Yes, the Omega is now in control. Although you should be able to assign playback to your other audio card it would be best to use the Omega for both recording and playback.
Yes, you can use CoolEdit with the Omega. Simply choose it as your audio input and output source.
And in Cubase, yes you need to save the files as a project file if you ever need to go back and edit. But you can export the finished file as a wav or mp3 from Cubase. Simply choose file/export and you are there.

I found a quarter inch adapter for my headphones and was able to use them in the Omega for playback, as well as to hear the mic.
Now, while recording vocals and I want to listen to my music track in the headphones as a guide do I need to have my headphones plugged into my PC and record without being able to hear the mic?
Also, how do I choose Cool Edit as my audio input/output source?
Oh, and here's a stupid question; do I leave the Omega plugged in at all times? Or can I unplug the power and the USB wihout damaging anything or fouling up the computer recognizing the Omega. I'd prefer to be able to shut it down and set it aside, but I was here www.lexiconpro.com/Commun...asc&start=0 and became a tad concerned.

Aug 19, 2007 02:36 pm Wow, that is one messed up piece of hardware it sounds like.
You don't need to choose cool edit as an input output source. What you need to do is go into cool edits options/audio settings and choose the Omega as your input and output source. Then the omegas drivers will be available for you to use to record and playback in CE.
As for unplugging the power, I would say that from what I read there it is probably a good idea. If it self powers via USB then disconnecting the USB is probably an option as well.

I was thinking of getting a power strip just for the Omega and then shutting the strip down when the Omega is not in use. I hate to leave something like that on at all times considerng how hot it gets, and the manual mentions nothing of powering down. I think I'll call Lexicon tomorrow.

Aug 19, 2007 07:34 pm I find it kind of scary that it actually gets that noticeably hot. I have lots of heavier hardware that runs all day at times and never gets that kind of hot. I am beginning to wonder if there is an issue with this thing that Lexicon is not dealing with at the moment.

Aug 19, 2007 10:25 pm Actually, it's not that hot afterall. It's warm right now. Still, after reading the posts on that forum I'd say you're right that there is an issue.
