Ouch! There were 15,000 people there that didn't think so. Over 15 million albums sold, 9 Juno's. You may not like them but they are doing something right. I wish I could "suck" like they do.

Ha, there's definitely two camps when it comes to picklesmack (heh, editorial comment).

Personally, I like them. I'd have went to see them too.

My daughter doesn't like them either so I hear that a lot in our household. I like them and have even a higher level of respect for them after last night. They can rock it out really hard.

Don't get me wrong. I know a lot of people don't like them and I hear it a lot. Like 'em or not they are a huge success.

WYD - ya I shot all the footage for this last night.

btw - did you know that Dimebag plays on one of their songs? They sync'd up a video of him playing, with them playing live at the same time. It was a very strange experience to see/hear a dead guy playing with them. Apparently Chad was a good friend of Dimebag's.

I think they have pretty much given up with trying to stop people now that cell phones can take video/still shots.

This was shot with a 4.1 MP Canon camera.

Here's another for the Nickelback non-fan club. Shot with the same camera. Now don't tell me that you don't like Roger Waters - lol

lol

Love the production, but the songs are all the same.... Its like they have a recipe for a song that sells, and won't change the ingredients.

BeerHunter I can't leave you hanging like this. I like Nickelback. I have seen them live and they put on one hell of a good show. And as far as all of the songs sounding the same, man you could say that about any number of major acts. I'll name a few AC/DC, Van Halen, Kiss.... I mean I love all of those bands but after the second album you pretty much got the idea. :) (No Offense) lol

The guitar tone they had going on was incredible. PRS ->Mesa and at one time the lead was being played Clear Acrylic Gibson Flying V-> Mesa. All that drop D and C tuning sounded awesome.

As far as sounding the same, well not sure about that. Animal, Leader of Men, Far Away, Never Again are all quite different.

They set out to write hit songs and they write hit songs. At least the play ******* instruments! There are not too many bands that would change the million dollar formula.

I think a lot of the bad rep comes from nothing more than envy.

Hahaha, I'm just busting nads.

Nickelback is one of those bands, you love 'em or you hate 'em, my wife saw them in Toronto and her friends and her loved it.

I've got no problems with anyone who goes out and writes and plays their own music (or anything else really).

I just don't enjoy listening to the music. I find it generic and boring, and i'd rather listen to something like Weezer. More fun, different, and it has the 'indy' production sound, not this mega, over produced 100 guitar tracks each side, no mids, 'I payed an engineer a million dollars to turn me into a machine ' kinda sound. Sounds good yeah, but not my cup of tea. My 2 cents :-).

Kool vid BH!

I'm in the middle on Nickleback myself. I like some of their stuff and his voice is made for that power rock type stuff.

let it be KNOWN, i'm a hater....maybe i'm just jealous, but i've felt that way since their first "hit"...we'll see if they're still relevant 10 year's from now. my money's on they won't.

just my opinion here, but nickelback to me is a 'safe' band that has no sense of danger or cool or anything like that behind 'em. that's fine, though, it just means they're 'about' something i don't care about. i haven't examined their songs in detail, but i also get the feeling that it's mostly diatonic chords with maybe a flat 3 and a flat 7 in there somewhere and that's about it. if i'm wrong, cool, i got the wrong impression somehow (by not listening). but something about 'em turned me off musicially initially (besides the lyrics, which i definitely think violate some principles i believe in). another possibility is that i don't like bands who write melodies which are mostly made up of the chord tones themselves. i somehow got that impression from them too.

So, you think they use a magical formula? This only works if you got stereo speakers....

db, what's happening to my links, they are morphing into other things.....

is this nickelback trying to stop me from unveiling their secret hit song bullsheep? I knew they were evil. Anyway, google nickelback and "two songs sound exactly the same" and you'll see what I mean. It's two songs they wrote with the same chord sequence, bridge, melody syncopation etc.

I think Nickelback is a knock off of Creed which is a knock off of top 40 grunge-era stuff.

because the word **** is in it...it is getting censored. I'll have to fix that...not sure how...I'm working on fixing it.

Personally, I like Nickleback and think some people put way to much energy and thought into enjoying music...get a grip...

I have heard the link you are trying to post and the main problem with it is that the guy admitted to having to "slightly alter" the songs to make them fit. One thing that is plain obvious is he changed the tempo. Another problem is that if you "slightly alter" the songs you could do that little trick with just about any song on the radio.

I was kinda thinking that. There's a fair amount of acts out that do pretty similar songs. Specially if you tweak one of them to fit the other.

Not sure if any of you have heard Bachman Turner Overdrive's Jamaica vs. Rick Springfield's Kristina but if you get a chance, compare those two songs. They are identical except for the lyrics. All the music and melodies are the same. I try and splice those two together and post them somewhere. This is the most blatent rippoff I've ever heard and I'm shocked that nobody has been sued over it.

As for the Nickelback thing (link), I've heard this before and, well the two songs that are similar are songs that I like the least anyways. I like their harder stuff, not the sappy acoustic ballads.

the ghostbusters song and 'i want a new drug' by huey lewis and the news are the same song. in the verse anyway.

when i dont like a band, i have to find reasons why i dont, just so that when i say why i dont like them i can back it up with some reasons. that's all.

Yep, sen that one as well. And funny enough is he only changed the tempo by a fraction to get it to fit. So big deal, we have all recycled beats or the like now and then. So for them it was an entire song, no big deal. I'm not a huge Nickleback fan but I can listen to them without wincing so they can't be that bad.

BH, we used to cover the BOT tune and ya, Springfield completely ripped them off. Did he have permision? Maybe so since nobody got sued. Or maybe BTO just figured it was cool having someone like that tune so much they wrote another song around the melody.

Or maybe it could have something to do with the fact that Jim Vallance penned both of those songs! I'm opting for this last choice. Here is the proof. www.jimvallance.com/01-mu...ield-krist.html

So some people copying their own, and others copying someone else's. No big deal really.

there's a drug commercial on tv these days (might be for 'actonel') which is a mixture of 'the hokey pokey' and the instrumental break from '99 red balloons'

listen out for it. steel drums are in it. if you hear it. you'll know it. unmistakable blending!

"Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and "The Alphabet Song" that children sing - same tune. Copying has been around for a long time, gentlemen.

There are still only twelve notes.

It seems that the most popular songs of Nickelback's are mostly acoustic ballads. These ballads really do sound like cookie cutter stuff. However they really do have a large catalog. The overall feeling of the concert was definately hard->heavy rock. Lots of pyro and stuff going on. I was surprised actually. It was better than I expected.

The singer for "Puddle of Mudd" kicks *** as well. Great rock and roll voice.

Yellowcard - well, didn't do much for me. Oh ya, lesson learned... you can never look "cool" playing a violin no matter how much you dance around on stage.

State of Shock - they have a cool tune called "Money Honey" but unfortunately we missed them entirely. (hard to make a 6:15 show start on a Thursday).

Next up, Scorpions. I'm hoping to get a great video of that concert together as well. We are right up front (row 3 or something) in a really small venue.

Here's a vid (that I posted in a different thread) of April Wine.
