i have Cool Edit Pro 2.1, wavelab, and atomix dj

If the song is already mixed you won't be able to treat the vocals and not the beat...

yeah, you need to let us know if the chorus is something you recorded or if you're talking about sampling someone elses song...

Well there are two ways to do that. One is easier then the other. You need to load the vocal snippet or sample into a sampler, either software or hardware sample will do. Then set it to be played as a one shot with the trigger to be only while a midi note is on. Then you simply hit your keyboard controller note which is the one set to trigger the sample. Smack it short for the quick little blip sounding parts and hold it down to play the full sample all the way through. You can do this with long or short shots of the loop, it does not matter. It is simply determined by what you want the thing to do.

The other alternative is to chop up the vocal bit into small pieces and place them in the audio track to sound exactly like you want. You simply slice off the little blip chunk and copy it on the beats you want it to sound on and then place whatever lengths of the sample on the beats wherever you want those. It isn't real easy to try and explain but hopefully this will get you started.

do like Noize said in the second example and make two files. record the vocal once. Make a copy of the file. ON one file cut off all but just the first bit of sound (experiment to get the right length). The second leave as the whole vocal. In CoolEdit, on beat 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4 use the first file, and on beat 2.1 use the second file. I didn't actually listend to the song in your profile, so I don't know the exact rhythm, but I think this should get you started, and you should be able to handle it from here.

ok first noize2u,

what is a good sampling program, since i dont have hardware to do it

also, im still not sure on how to do it the way i want

when u said chop up the vocal bit into small pieces, how do i do this?

coolo, u said in cooledit, on beat 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4, and the beat 2.4 thing, i have no idea what you mean

im guessin it is supposed to be done it edit view? and how do i know what beat 1.1 etc is and where it is at?

The complicated way is:

Take the vocal track into edit view.

Highlight a snippet (zoom in as necessary).

Right click the snippet > Copy to New

Save the snippet with a name you'll recognize - for example - pffpppfft1.

Repeat this procedure for all other snippets you want to use.

Then drop these snippets into the session on their own track(s), aligning them as you see fit. You'll have to zoom in pretty tightly and have patience, but it works.

Good luck.

in track view, double click in the ruler right under the tracks, in the area where the current time is displayed until you get beats. Then you can put the samples at beat 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, etc. You will also need to set the bpm (speed of the track) accurately for this to work and have it be on beat.

looping in just about any audio editor should be fairly simple....why not learn yourself? it's cheaper man! then you don't gotta worry about other ppl havin' your beat.

well im a pothead for 1, and my weed means everything to me, and ive found that experimenting and making me think too hard kills my high. Id rather spend it writing lyrics or laughing my *** off to family guy. Wow im sounding like an idiot, but your right, im making it harder than it is, i mean ive sampled a jay z acapella onto a beat, and it sounded real good. The only thing is, it was complete luck because i pitch shifted it exactly right the first time.

i'm a pothead too, and i find the opposite true....what you're describing to me sounds more like lazyness (no offence meant) blame it on the smoke if ya want, but i don't mind learning new things at all....espicaly while high.

now remembering what i learned....that's a different story.

Not really, just your typical stoner with no drive that will live in his moms basement watching family guy for the rest of his life when there is likely a lot more he is meant to do with his life.

Sad, really...

I look back at the years I wasted and how fuckered up my priorities, values and friendships were...dumb...

hopheads? are u from the 70s?

and i do got money, i got a job, and im looking for a second one. Weed isnt a downer for me, its an upper for me. You may not understand that, but its true.

I dont live with my mother or my father. I go to school. If this music **** dont work out, then ill have a backup plan.

Really, you should never stereotype.

The term "hophead" goes back to the 1930s.

As much as the Politically Correct try to refute it, the fact remains that many stereotypes are based on solid evidence. But hey, don't listen to me. I'm just a cantankerous, middle-aged old fool who was raised in the 60s and 70s. Party on, dewd.

Yeah, it's not like I don't know what I'm stereotyping...been there, kid, and been back again...I've likely spilled more pot in my life than you've smoked...I know of what I speak.

db masters, i wouldnt be to sure about that. I mean, i couldnt even stop smoking for probation. And, if youve smoked a whole Qp in one night with 3 other people, then maybe.

But enough about this, i dont want to be like Mr. ***** Killa. Why did that guy leave anyway

That guy left cuz we wouldn't take him seriously because he sounded and spoke like a real idiot...mr tough gangsta "keepin' it real" and "having mad skillz" and all this stupid crap...he was just playin the rough, tough, street wise gangsta playa that knows all the greats from his area and all that crap...

We have a very cool community of all demographics, music styles and backgrounds and all get along pretty well, but some people just have no decorum at all they want respect but won't give it...you know the type I am sure...

For the record, I don't have anything against smoking pot in and of itself, I have a problem when it becomes the one and only priority for somebody that life is all around weed...ever see John Stewart in "Half Baked"...I have a problem with that...

I won't get into a "I smoked more than you" thing, but, well, let's just say I know of what you speak.
