Any tips on writing a great bio?

Hey all,

I'm struggling to come up with a great bio... or even a half decent one. Do you guys have any tips or know where I can find a good source on writing these things?

Also, how does one go about obtaining press releases? Do you actively go after this type of thing or do you have to wait for it to come to you?

Anyhow, we've joined Sonicbids and I need to get something decent posted and I'm struggling to come up with anything good. If you get a chance take a look at www.sonicbids.com/thelondonproject and you will see what I mean.

Thanks in advance for any ideas, sugestions or anything to point me in the right direction.

Lonnie

I would be real tempted to tell the truth, but in as much as everyone else's bio is an inflated crock, or else a collection of ambigious terms, or both, I would probably start by looking at bio's of some of the bigger names scattered around myspace and such. Press releases are simply trying to con the press into covering something you are doing. Well.... simple in concept at least... now getting the press to respond is well.... usually near impossible.

Ya, I've been digging around on some others but for some reason I can't seem to get going on it. I seem to lack the inspiration on this sort of thing.

Who constitutes "press"? Would a review from here be considered press for example?

I press release is any sort of "news", hell you could make a press release about your project joining SonicBids.

I used to do press releases and publish them for HRC, dB Masters and such, I hated it and just stopped...

Hmm, maybe I will just make something up under a pen name or something. I'm not really wanting to do this but it appears as a blank section and it would be nice to put something there. Maybe I'll talk to our marketing dudes here and see what they think. I know we do them but I'm not sure how they go about.

BH, I know exactly how you feel. I've never been any good at that sort of thing either. In fact, truth be told dB wrote the majority of my bio here as I just could never come up with anything decent but needed to have something there. I added a few bits a year ago or so but nothing much over what dB originally did.

When I did my bio it was basically a narrated musical resume.

as far as press release here's the one I did for the Aardvark Support Group.

ahh memories... a couple days later a major ice storm hit the midwest and we lost power which took the server offline for a while.
