Triggering samples from behind my kit

Hi, I am in need of a bit of advice. I have also posted this in the gear gab section too.

I am a drummer and me and my band are looking to use samples triggered by me from my kit. I was wondering the best way to do this.

I have seen the Roland SPD-S but the reviews are not so good. I was thinking maybe getting a few drum pads and triggering some kind of module/sampler with them. Would I have to trigger via midi? I will also want to trigger drum sounds too. My budget is about £300 or $600.

Thanks

Are you doing this live? or in a studio setting. If you're doing this to record it, then there's cheap ways to do it, like a drumagog replacement.

Live, I'm pretty sure the drum triggers, and a sound module are the way to go.

The Roland unit is not that bad really. The first issue of it had some firmware issues but those are long since fixed.

Although if you are looking to use them as pads for conventional drum sounds as well the trigger set up is much easier I suppose to set up for a natural flo with the kit. But that would require a module that takes trigger inputs such as an Alesis DM4 or a Roland TD unit or something which all come with a few FX sounds and a huge library of drum kits. Then that unit can simply be hooked via midi to sampler of sorts for your other samples and such. That option would be adding a bit more hardware to your kit and a good deal of wiring and such to get sounds out of both units and wire the triggers to the brain and such.

DDrum makes some good triggers that mount onto acoustic kits.
