I'm buying an AT3035, a large diaphragm condenser microphone for studio recording on another continent... I'm assuming it come in pretty good padding, but I'm wondering if it's a good idea to stick in checked baggage. I've heard that these things are pretty sensitive pieces of equipment, so I'm wondering if it'll be fine with things like the changes in air pressure and handling that checked baggage is exposed to.
WDYT?

Jul 19, 2007 01:07 pm personally, i would carry it on with me rather than check it...
Jul 19, 2007 01:15 pm Either way, the screeners are likely to think it's a bomb, and you'll be pulled out of the line and detained while they track down an "expert".. haha

Jul 19, 2007 07:15 pm IF you pack it carefully deep in the midle of the softer stuff in your luggage you should be OK. I have shipped and carried tons of different mics without any damage as long as they are packed properly.
Jul 27, 2007 09:48 am Well, flew with it in my carry on.
The Americans didn't ask about it. The French asked me what it was when they went through my bag, but believed me when I told them.
So it wasn't a problem with airport security.

Jul 27, 2007 12:25 pm french security is awsome... they always check but never care... I was flying out of paris and was asked if I had my guns in my bag (I was flying on military orders instead of a passport) and said 'no they're on me' the guy laughed and said 'OK! thats good!'
I don't think I would do that in the US...
