Seriously considering writing a novel...

This whole neighborhood drama has got me thinking about a suspense/thriller novel. I have various twists and turns in mind to make it a bit more dramatic.

All the way through high school every literature and creative writing teacher I had told me to pursue writing as a career because of some of the more outlandish stuff they'd seen from me...plus, I have a good buddy that is an aspiring writer that could help perhaps...

I think I have a pretty, good solid idea for a decent story...most of it based on reality, just a few extremes need to be pushed.

Whaddya think?

pffewww...i was thinkin' i'd be a conservative non-fiction!!! thank god! ยง;o)

i say bash out a rough draft in your spare time....ya got all of us here to get 'general opinions'....and then just take it from there.

i'd get a 'working' copy up and running before commiting to 'writing a book'....that way you don't have too many ppl involved or expecting a finished product or whatnot.

one trick i've learned is to embellish the details when writing non-fiction....instead of 'fred got into his car and drove off'....go with 'fred steped out into the crisp early-morning air and opened the rusty door of his '82 Nova. The door wimpered a squeek that would rival any domestic rodent as he grudgingly slammed the door shut. Paint chips strewn in the drive are a testament to how many times he's done this before.

ok i'm getting carried away!

Oh, I am pretty familiar with writing, the embellishment factor and flowery text and whatnot.

I may get back to some people privately via email with some details on outlines...

I think the good family in the book will be the "Utsmelz'" dad will be Herb...gotta get a good name for the wife :-)

The trick will be how to end it...so many possibilities...could make a statement about the system and have the good family loose...or a feel good and have the psycho die in a brutal fight where justice prevails...

Aw, c'mon.. Herb wants to be the villain!

Herb's wife could be named Jean (Gee, nut smells) but I'll give it some thought.

Ah, Herb could be the complacent police officer that "sees this crap every day so suck it up"...then someone dies and he kills himself in guilt.

...that kills himself in guilt when his nose misses something and someone dies...

Face it, one way or another, Herb is gonna off himself :-)

Just make it a dignified suicide, please. Something like self-suffocation in a stripper's bosom comes to mind...

Wait, Herb has an affair with the psycho and gets smothered by hers...

Hmmmmmmm, might have to rethink who will play psycho then when I talk zek into coming to MN and making an indie film of it...

If you need somebody to voice the trailer, I can be had for slightly less than Don LaFontaine.

"in a world..."

eh, I'll do it with a pitch bender. :-)

might be cool to have HRC make the sound track, the ultimate collab project.

i'm IN, what can i do?!!! dude, this could get outta hand REAL fast! [bypassing the plot of above] how about a documentary of HRC? it's gotta get a bit bigger (so the narrator can say 'phenomenon') (can you tell when i'm at home using firefox and my spelling rocks!???)

but seriously, just today, i was explaining the 'COMMUNity factor' we have here to my coworker....the guy (internet savoy) was hard to wrap his head on a msg board that IS dignified.... he was all "you don't get a-holes starting gruff?" and i (being that this is the second msg board i've got hooked on, the first was cannabis.com....but it got old quick) but my co-worker was perplexed when i told him we all REALLY get along.....this is the ONLY site (that i've seen) where ppl REALLY get along, even though we have our different opinions...

man, i hate to drag this into the ground, but CONGRAT'S! you've created a very rare community on the net....dude seriously, you run a tight (not in an authoritarian way) ship here, and the 'bad seeds' filter themselves out (walters is a beautiful exemption).....

to get to my point, you're a wonderful 'ambassador' to others that think like you. it's ppl like you that make me think, we 'can' work together...ok, i'm babbling...my god! what was this thread about??

this is happening more often than it sould! and i apologize to all that read this.....seriously, audio-wise i wanna help, and learn! but i AM a layman, and that's o.k. Because I'm Good Enough, I'm Smart Enough, and Doggone It, People Like Me!

Seriously tho, thanks, it's all great to read, but I gotta chuckle a little :-)

If a movie was possible, I'd totally be doing it instead, some of what I need to write is so much more easily translated visually.
