Hi
Anyone willing to help me get started ?
I have a Korg MicroKontrol and Reason Adapted 3.0.3 (build 542) connected by USB to my PC.
All I can make happen is that the keyboard will play notes throught the PC speakers.
I can't load any pre-existing music to play because the instructions contain radio buttons and files which don't seem to exist in my version.
I can't find how to alter the sound produced by the keyboard.
I feel as If I just climbed into the cockpit of a Jumbo Jet with no training and an out-of-date manual.
I promise not to ask too many questions but would appreciate any help in getting started with the very basics.
Thanks in advance
Glenn

Hey man,

As a heads up, I've never used reason before.

So you have reasons MIDI input set to the MicroKontrol, and the audio outs set to your soundcard right?

It should be as easy as loading an instrument into the signal flow?

Anybody else got anything? lol

Welcome to HRC first off. Next is the fact that Reason Adapted is actually a light version of the software. So indeed there may be some items locked out. But it should still have the help files available to use if it is a full install.

Did the Reason Adapted version come with the Korg by chance? I do believe even the Adapted version allowed use of the sequencer though I am not sure on it. Have you tried going to the Propellerhead site to look for info. Here is the support page. www.propellerheads.se/sup...ction=mainframe

Here is the main page for Reason Adapted as well. There might be some info there in the video tutorials. www.propellerheads.se/pro...ction=mainframe

I'm not a Reason user, but there are a few here that do. Hopefully they will pop in and have an idea of whats up.

Hi guys, thanks for replying.
Yes Reason came with the Korg, and recognises it as an input device (surface!). And the sound comes out of my PC speakers ok.
Basically it's all the jargon which stops me making progress. e.g. "loading an instrument into the signal flow" lol.
I have managed to locate some sound files in the Reason folder which the keyboard will play (drums and guitar), so that's a start. I got there more by luck than judgement.
What I'd really like to do is to reproduce some of the sounds I like from old records like the Green Onions organ sound, or Jimmy Hendrix's guitar. Is this possible ? Can such sounds be downloaded from somewhere ?

Thanks again guys and thanks for any further help.

tgmjf-

I use an older version of reason, but things should be about the same. For what is sounds like you are looking to do you will want to load NN-19 digital sampler from the "Create" menu. Once this is loaded you can press the "Tab" key to flip the rack around. You will want to make sure that the sampler is virtually plugged in correctly. Press tab to go back to the front. Click on the little folder icon towards the upper left to load different patches (sets of sounds). This will prompt you to find the library which is most likely in the directory where you installed Reason. If you go through all the patches and can't find/make the sounds that you are looking for. You can purchase "ReFills" that contain more samples/patches. Usually found in the software sections of online music stores. Let me know if you need more specific help. :)

Ian
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
I don't have a 'Create' menu in Reason, so can't load the sampler, presumably because it's a different version to yours.
However I get the idea and I'll go into the documentation and see what I can find.
Thanks again

If I remember correctly the NN-19 didn't come with some versions of Reason Adapted, although it could be in the Korg version. The Create menu may be called something else by now as well so have a look for any option taht would pertain to loading a synth or sampler into the rack.

If you can't work out the create menu issue, you can right click (contol click with a mac)in the empty space of the rack and select which component you would like to add. If you don't have the NN-19 look for the NN-XT. I think those are the only two samplers available in Reason everything else is a synth.

Well Guys, especially Ian, with your help I have quickly gone from nowhere to 'Way Cool' here :-)

Found the sampler etc and have been merrily playing various instruments. Now to look for Refills online......

My grateful thanks and best wishes to you.
