Im trying to record my 2nd full cd. On it im going to do a cover of a Dustin Kensrue song called "Blanket of Ghosts" But a problem arises. I dont know what one of the instruments is called, let alone how to replicate it myself. You can here the song on his myspace at:
www.myspace.com/dustinkensrue

OK instuemtn is the high pitched niose during basically through the whole song. Not the little guitar solo things, but the like synth/organ sound that is sort of the backround sound during the verses. I cant really point it out anymore.

If you know what it is.. please tell me!

thanks
melty

Yeah, seems just a variation on the B3 patch.

don't forget the leslie cab! (swirly)...sounds like he turns it off when holdin' the single notes...actually i think he's switching patches on the higher quieter parts....not positive on that though....check your organ plugs!

the Hammond B3 is an organ that got popular in the late 60's (think "born to be wild")

alotta synths have a B3 patch that sounds like it...

organ plugs are plugins that emulate organs....google Native Instruments B4

how old are you? i don't mean any offense i'm just curious to someone who hasn't heard of an organ....they've been around for over 45 years and have a very distinct sound that's generally easy to recognize...and damn near EVERY keyboard/soft synth has a patch or two that resembles one....like i said i don't mean to knock ya, i just can't imagine not knowing an organ when i hear one....i grew up listening to them.

all the best

Native Instruments makes a great B3 softsynth to duplicate the B3 sound on a PC www.zzounds.com/item--NINB4

i happen to be 19. Reason I blame technology for me not knowing an organ when i hear one, reason being that there so many synths, keys, effects, computerized instruments, ect. for a modest acoustic guitar player/singer like myself, the line between the plethora of instruments starts to fade. I mean, there are so many instruments that sound nearly the same to me, i have no idea if what im hearing is fake or real, computerized or analog. And ontop of all that, i grew up in california. Theres not much popular music out here that you can hear an organ in. I blame the music, not the organ.

but anyway, thanks for you guys help. Ill definaly try to get my hands on a good softsynt of the b3.

ill let you guys know how it goes.

yeah i can understand whatcha mean....my mom listened to 60's and early 70's and my dad listened to late 70's to late 80's then got hooked on country, and i grew up on late 80's and early 90's ...so i've been exposed to alot of sounds. and done some homework, so it's easy for me to forget 'not everyone knows what i know' and vice-versa i'm just now gettin' my head around it solidly. i guess it comes to how deep does the hole go, when it comes to music....and there's so many different holes now!

anyway, keep your ears open bro...

melty, go to KVR and do a search through the VSTi's and specify your looking for an organ. There are several there that are pretty dang good.

And make sure it can do the Leslie emulation as WYD stated because he really lets loose with it a few time during the heavier parts, but you can hear it swirling all the way through it.

If you have any trouble locating something let me know and I'll try and find something for you. I liked that tune by the way. He reminds me of someone I recorded years ago and played a Hammond on his tracks for him as well.

"Specify you're looking for an organ."

Hehehehehe, careful who you specify that to.
