Alesis Micron Question...

Hey.. I just got an Alesis Micron today. It's my first synth and I've already encountered a problem.

I've realised that with a lot of the program sounds that I like, you can only press one key at a time. Like if you hold down one key and then press another it cuts off the first one. It's not with all of the sounds.. but it includes most of the leads that I like. Is there a way to fix/change this??

Thanks, and sorry for the noob question. I feel like it may have something to do with the sustain but I'm really not sure. This manual is hard to grasp. >.<

from the alesis site Quote:
The Micron has 8-voice polyphony

check the manual for turning on the polyphony...it may be a patch setting, so check the patch editor menus...is there a "mono/poly" button?

i've got the Ion, which is the big version of the Micron (will most of the same presets, but without the sequencer), and THAT has a mono/poly button, so im guessing your one has at least a setting there somewhere to sort this

The reason only one note plays is because the patch you are using is only set up for mono, meaning it can only use one note at a time. I am not sure if you can edit the patch and save it with a new name to increase the polyphony to the 8 note max if that is what you want.

Most of those patches don't sound could with overlapping notes, and use an extreme amount of the processor to create them. So the use of single note lines is the best with them. But as I stated it is possible on most synths to increase the polyphony of the patch and then save it to play more notes at one time.

Also, if you're in the "patterns" section instead of the "programs" section, you'll experience that a lot. Patterns are usually pre-arranged sequences of notes that would likely step all over each other if you tried playing chords with 'em.

"Programs", on the other hand, are generally one specific tone, and chords (or rather "polyphony") is enabled by default.

Choose the sound you want to edit, hold down Programs button and press the key labeled "voice", scroll to Polyphony, press Control Knob, turn Monophonic to Polyphonic or vice verse, push Knob to set, Done.
