Yamaha SK20

Does anybody here have a Yamaha SK20? I'd like to hear more about it, I've heard that Sigur Ros use it, especially for the organ sound.

I still haven't been able to find one on eBay, does anyone know if it's possible to buy it somewhere else?

I did have one in the day. IT had some pretty cool sounds. But the major drawbacks were the fact it had no midi and could not be modified. It was a pain to edit anything and set up patches and was kind of limited in what it could do. But what sounds it did have were great. It bigger brothers the 30 and 50d were a bit better but still nothing like the big boys of analog.

But it did have a pretty distinctive tone to it. You couldn't drive it into self oscillation though which was a key to getting some truly uniques sounds back then.

Still haven't had any luck finding one... I'm really interested in getting it, as from what I hear, it has a very good organ sound similar to a B3, and shouldn't be TOO expensive.

I do enjoy my new SH-201 for all the analog-like sounds, but if there's one sound I'm still not able to get from my current equipment, it's a good organ sound...

(besides, me -> real sigur ros fanboy! XD)

Woah, finally, thanks there!

Though I have to admit I'm not willing to pay around 400$ US AND 200$ for the shipping. I'll keep looking, I actually missed a SK-15 for 120$ the other day, I was 2 days too late...

I'll keep researching, thanks though :)

Crap, I didn't even notice it was from Belgium. My bad on that. I will keep looking as time permits as well. I'll put a word in to my buddy as well since he owns a couple of Music Go Round stores and might come across one as well.

Another one popped up on Ebay, but for more than 400$ excluding shipping... I really wished I could've got that SK15 for 125$ -.-

Thanks a lot for looking out for one, I for one will be visiting every pawn shop of montreal in the next days...

I might've found one...

However it looks really dirty, all the keys/springs do work though. How does one go about cleaning sliders and such things? I know I'd have to use contact cleaner but how do you clean this kind of keyboard? Do you have to open it?

Thanks :)

I would suggest getting it open to try and blow as much of the debris out as possible before hitting it with any contact cleaner. That will also allow you to clean away any dust that has accumulated on components that may heat up.

And make sure and use a high grade contact cleaner, don't just get some generic crap from Radio Shack, it will make a big difference.

BE SURE TO USE A CAN OF COMPRESSED AIR FIRST!!!

i killed many a keys on my only synth by spraying dirt further into the electronics....a simple can of air prolly wouldda prevented it...

Thanks for the tips!

I ended up not winning the auction, but I'm sure those tips will be useful when I finally get one.

I have an SK-20 in good cosmetic & working condition (pots could use a cleaning, though).

Looking to sell for $300 + shipping. I'm in NYC, so if pickup could be arranged, obviously saves on shipping.

Would also be willing to trade for equivalent: keyboard midi controller (with some knobs), firewire interface and/or foot midi controller.

Please email me on [email protected] immediately if interested. I'm putting this up on craigslist today as well.

I have a SK-15 that I am debating whether or not to sell. The unique thing about mine is that it is in like new condition. Tinkered with it rarely and no gigs. Basically just kept it meticulously stored in a closet, which is why I am considering to sell it. But somehow I find myself unable to part with it. I don't know. What do you think I should do?

Hi, hope I'm not too late, just joined. By any chance ShinyTop, do you still have that SK-15? I've been looking for one for over a year. I live in the States, so that may or may not be a problem IF you decide to sell it. Please E-mail me.

Nickster, are you looking to sell it then?

I may know of a party or two that may still have an interest in the unit.

Hi Noize2U, It depends on the price really as it has a sentimental value.

Its been in my loft since '97 and I've owned it since '85. Not checked to see if it works for 12 years but it was fully functional at the time of storage so should be alright :-)

Which country are you based in?

I'm in the US.

And indeed, sentimental value is worth more most times.

I still to this day regret offing my Juno 106. It was my first midi capable analog synth. Although it wasn't my very first, it was the one that made the biggest difference for me on stage. I've owned 2 other 106's since then. But they just didn't hold the sentimental value.

I don't think you can put a price on that.
