New lad with Cubasis VST 5.0 problem

Hi folks,

I'm a new lad on this forum. I've been looking over some of the other threads that are floating about, and you lot seem like a pretty helpfull bunch.

I've been home recording for about 4 years now. Everything was smooth as can be with the recording process until I decided to clean up my machine, re-installing everything including Windows XP.

The problems i've been having are all to do with fact that I didn't take a note of what settings I had for each of my programs. One by one however, I'm managing to get through them, until now.

For my home recording, I use Cubasis VST 5.0. The problem I'm having is with recording audio onto single tracks. When I try to record any audio, it not only records what i'm playing/singing, but also anything else that is playing at the same time - previous audio, drum tracks, etc...

I'm no computer expert, but i'm sure there must be a simple explanation and remedy for this.

Your help is greatly appreciated as I now have a massive back-log of songs waiting to be recorded!

Welcome to HRC.

What you have is a simple routing problem, very common. Also, it's impossible to diagnose accurately without looking at it.

Part of it depends on what you sound card is, as each has different options available to it.

Fill out your gear profile so we know what gear we are working with and perhaps somebody can help.

Thanks for that.

I'll have a stab at updating my gear profile, but i'm not the most useful when it comes to computers!

I know that my sound card is a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum.

What other stuff do you need to know?

Cheers for the welcome.

I figured you'd say sound blaster, have a read of this from the FAQ: www.homerecordingconnection.com/faq.php#q10

That's superb!

I thought that I might get some good pointers on this forum, but I never thought it would be that quick.

I'll give that a shot later tonight and let you know how I get on.

I could get used to this place.

Thanks very much.

Alright mate, thanks for the help.

After a couple of initial gitches with the sound card, I managed to sort the settings out, and my one man hit machine is back in business!

Cheers
