I use a combination of things depending on the room, the guitar itself and the player. My normal first off set up would use one LDC and one SDC. But a pair of SDC or a pair of LDC can work also. An SM57 is a good choice as well as several other's.

I like condensers, I've heard my best results with (2) C414s in a spaced pair and a U87 behind that. Also, ribbons are nice. A Royer SF-24 sounds great.

I did recordings in several positions with a dynamic, and then two dynamics. I covered all the standard ways to do it with dyanmics, but it didnt sound good to me. I tried the very cheap Behringer B-1 pointing to the hole, still beat out the dyanmics (SM58 if i remember). So yeah, i vote condenser

Well you guys are going to get tired of me saying this but I've had great results using a pair of K-Micro's (SDC's).

The most recent song (I Know She Understands) we are working on is entirely tracked using these mics.

They are not for all applications but they sure work well on acoustics.

Na, I'll never get tired of you or I or anyone else saying it. I have talked to someone who used Karma's ribbon mic and am definitely going to order one when she gets back from China.

I have reached a new 'crossroad' or hurtal with acoustic guitar recording. I have gotton one real good recording of a twelve string IMHO and it was in a room about 60x60. Any room smaller than that and the harmonics mount up and I will say light up the room resulting in uneven recordings across the frequency spectrum. I really don't know whether to go the route of super dampening in a smaller room or what.

I like a dampened room here. But a good hall is nice as well. Or a well done room.

Noise, good to see you! Elaberate if you would. This low-mid range 'bloom' is really getting on my nerves. Do I stick the guy in something akin to a vox booth?

Walt, ya gotta promise not to spread this around if I tell you. That and you have to promise not to laugh at either solution.

OK then. The first one is with the use of ceiling tiles. The 2' x 4' ones. I use 7 of them for this. You'll need a couple strips of like 1/4" x 1" strip. take 3 of the tiles and lay them out side by side by the 2' sides. So you end op with a 4' x 6' piece. Then repeat that with the other 4 piece's doing only two tiles wide. Then simply prop em up, the shorter ones I will put on a chair or a stand I made. The taller one sits on the floor. The tall one is the front and the shorter ones are the side. Its a cheap *** gobo is all it is, and it works a charm. I have done this set up in a garage and a couple of warehouse's and it worked great.

The second option is using the bathroom down here. I hang about a dozen or so towels, the thick ones. And cover the shower door with a blankey. The floor gives a nice high end reflection and the room itself make for a nice shiney sound. You can vary the amount of towels to depending on if it is stone tile or simple vinyl flooring.

Otherwise I will do it in here since it is damped just about right for getting a good clean sound without the reflexion's.

OK, you can laugh now if you want.

Hell no my friend. I am ALL about finding 'efficient' ways to do things. A personal pieve of mine is the individual who simply throughs money at a problem. That topic could turn into a rant that could get me in big trouble with dB on the talking smack. Per your request I won't talk it up, but I personaly think it is genious. I've heard your results. That I don't argue with. And quite frankly, now that I am not charging for recording per current day work status, If someone isn't 'impressed' with what I use to get recordings they can hit the road!

Thanks as always! I even have a box of tiles in the garage to work with!
