Hi guys,

thanks all

Yes, the RCA's are the only analog out, it would not do much good as a headphone output. You would want to get a headphone amp/splitter type of thing to put in the middle of the 2496 outs and the speakers.

If you have powered monitors with headphone out then there is your solution. Plug them into your monitors.

I ended up disappointed with the 2496 and sold it, I think it was just me though, I didn't know what I was getting, I expected something magical and it was just a good soundcard. The headphones issue was another problem. If you have regular PC speakers with a headphone port that can be used also or a mixer.

I replaced mine with the ESI [email protected] AWESOME card...i liked the 2496, it served me well, but the ESI drivers are so much lower latency.

Obvious things, I assume your speakers are hooked up to the card and there is no mute option on the card output ? I can't remember the outputs on the card but do you need a special connector for the speakers or anything.

Net result here, can you provide more details.

Yep, make sure the button is not on mute in the control panel and that the sliders are all the way up on the channels.

I think I need an adapter for my speakers. Problem is, I need a female 1/8" to two male RCAs, and I couldn't find this at Radio Shack or Circuit City. AND I can't seem to change it back to using the onboard realtek sound card in the meantime....it's listed NO WHERE under my sound options. So I think until I get my adapter, I'm going to have to physically remove my sound card to have sound on my computer >_>

There should be something along that line even in the Radio Shack catalog. I know I have used that same source before.

But check the above google search page for links to tons of places to get them.

Guitar Center online and stores have every cable combination you could want.

Is that what I need? I ask because I'm not sure if "stereo mini jack" is the same as a 1/8" jack.

Yes. Generally, with phone jacks and plugs, "mini" refers to 1/8". "Submini" refers to 3/32".

One thing to think about is the more connections you add in the more noise you are going to generate. Now that may or may not be important, but it is something to think about.

I had exactly the same issue with the 2496 (I've posted here about it and got good advice).

I ended up having to get a female RCA to female RCA cable made up, plugged one end into the soundcard L & R outs and plugged the headphones into the other end. The headphones are the small mp3 player sized jackplug.

It works fine, so you dont need to connect the headphones via an amp first if that's all you want to do.

thanks

hey guys!

Here is some more details on my problem..

if i check the device manager for the audiophile it says things are good!

"This device is working properly.

If you are having problems with this device, click Troubleshooter to start the troubleshooter."

the troubleshooter wasn't too helpful except that it said something along the lines of

"the audiophile is not on the windows approved soundcards list or whatever"

so before I installed the audiophile i had to pull out the SB audigy soundcard i was using..

so i start up and no sound... I fiddle with the connections a bit because i realise it has rca plugs instead of the other little ones in my soundblaster card.. i managed to set it up so that the rca plugs went to the amplifier/mixer through a rca extension chord -> rca adaptor to rca's -> little plug adaptor to little plug to 1/4 inch adaptor and then into the mixer/amplifier. (im stoned so i hope that makes sense!!! it does to me!!)

now i have turned up the volume on the delta control panel and i have tried switching to monitor and it does not work even though i do see the waves in the 2 master volumes and the waveout 1/2 bars move as well...

so i checked my amp again by switching the on board rc 97 sound card on and it worked again but the sound is now a bit fuzzy and distortish. if i look at both the ac 97 and the audiophile they both say they are working properly..

so i turn off the ac97 with a reboot and see what happens... still nothing... so im kinda stuck now for ideas....

can anyone help me... i NEED to get this going for the band, we just forked out $200 for it!!

thanks!

JB

Haha, get used to it. I know that I've done my share of stupid things in the past. Thankfully none of my errors thus far has cost me any gear. Well, for the most part anyways - lol

I dunno about BH, but I for one, have never, ever done anything stupid in my studio, not once, ever. ;-)

Except, well, this one time, at studio camp...
