If you have no need for any digital connection, I would say to go with the Delta 44:

service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear

If you want a digital connection go with the Delta 66 which is a 44 with S/PDIF connections in and out:

service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear

These cards works well with almost any hardware and software config and have ASIO and WDM driver options so with almost any conceivable option they will work. Very few reports of problems and they perform very well.

I have the Audiophile 2496 myself:

service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear

which is only 2 ins and outs analog, 2 digital and MIDI in and out, and it performs flawlessly day in and day out.

how do i know if i need or want a "digital connection"? and is there anywhere on the internet to go to get all these terms (ASIO, WDM, S/PDIF) explained to me? i'm a musician but not a tech guy, but i'm willing to learn.

All you have to do is ask.

ASIO and WDM are methods which the computer uses to talk to sound cards. And you are best off having a program that support the type of device you choose.

S/PDIF is Sony/Philips Digital Interface, a digital connection like a DAT tape uses. It looks like a typical home stereo jack but ships digital signals.

You are the only one that knows if you need them or not since you are the only one that know the gear you have a plan to have. If you have a DAT tape deck, then you should have S/PDIF.

In regards to the type of sound card driver you want to use, WDM and ASIO, well, it depends partly on the application you choose to use.

Cakewalk and Vegas currently only supports WDM, Steinberg apps (Cubase, Wavelab and Nuendo) will use either but perform best with ASIO...so it's really all up to you.

if you are unclear the meaning of a term, just ask, or look at our glossary in the htread stuck at the top of each forum.
