Argh, my daughter learned a hard lesson...

Yesterday my oldest (9 yo in June) learned a tough lesson. She has trouble with a couple kids in school, in her diary she drew a picture of one that was...well, not so flattering. She told one friend about it, made her "pinky swear", cross her heart and promise not to tell...then she told the kid...the kid gets mad (a girl from a rather less-than-perfect home life as I hear it and is a pretty tough, abrasive kid) and she got mad, teacher talked to the kids, then talked to my wife (teacher wasn't "mad" just wanted Diane to know what happened, teacher is aware of this one kid being sorta hard to get along with) and all that.

I took her on a long with with the dog last night to share a little fatherly advice...the ol' "if you don't want someone to know something, don't tell anyone"...

Her friend stabbed her in the back, the teacher talked to her, the kid is mad...bad day for her...but in talking to her she was understanding enough to understand why the kid was mad and why the teacher stepped in and all that...but the part about her friend stabbing her in the back really stung...

Anyone remember those days? ARGH! People often say they wish they could turn back the clock...I don't think I would. Childhood was tough sometimes.

Fortunatly it's a lesson learned on something that won't cause too much trouble.

Better stick figures while young than anything else while older :)

The only part of my life I would like to relive is being in my early 20's and giging. ...granted I'm in my late twenties so it wouldn't be too hard to go back... :)

#rambling#

millions of years from now the only archelogical evidence of our civilization will be childrens drawings... and the people of the time will ponder how 'stink lines' weighed in on our system of government...

Agreed. I just told her to learn something from it...but at the same time told her that is what a diary is for, to share your REAL feelings, and that I wasn't "mad" (which she was afraid of) I just think stuff like that shouldn't be shared...be angry, vent your anger some way like writing or whatever...that's natural and OK...it's just sometimes best kept private or between just us family.

Of course, as I am sure you know, while it won't cause much trouble in our eyes, to her it's the end of the world as she knows it...until tommorrow...

Kids is funny people...

I don't want to relive anything, I don't regret anything, but I don't want to do it again excpet maybe small scenes, no big chapters...looking back at gigging and stuff, I'll sleep just fine never going through that again...fun moments, priceless moments, on the whole though, it sucked.

Very common tale, dB. Kids do this kind of thing all of the time. We deal with it all of the time. It sounds like you handled it very well.

As you say, a lesson hard learned, but most of the best lessons are the hardest ones...

Agreed completely...and, as it turns out her friend was not the one who ratted, it was a different kid that overheard...

I still told her to NOT forget what we talked about.

Indeed, secrets kept are the best. I know I was never one to share with anyone. I left it to the music that I wrote. And yes, I wrote lyrics and little tidbits even as a very young lad. Maybe paranoid, but now I know I did the right thing at that age.

As for reliving things of my youth. I agree with dB, very few things I can think of going back for. The Carlson twins maybe but thats another story for another forum.

dB, indeed diaries are the perfect friend. Never let anyone see them, and don't bring them to school.
