i get to transfer a sony mini disc recording to cd and i need to 'clean' the background noize of a married dude and some chick he's bangin' in the car for a discruntled wife! she said it's about 3 hours, they have sex, but she want's to hear the 'pillow talk' more clearly, then she's gonna show him the evidence! god it was hard to talk to her without laughing!

Apr 05, 2007 01:07 pm Oh man! Serves the guy right! However, I think she is breaking the law... at least in the US (not in Canada). My understanding is that BOTH parties must be aware that they are being recorded. Not that she (the wife) is going to give a **** or that this has anything to do with a legal matter... that is except if she plans to use it in court to prove infidelity. Then it would be inadmissable. At least that is my understanding.

Apr 05, 2007 01:09 pm Compressor to bring up the background a tad and some eq to filter out the noise? Just a thought, I've never had to do this.
Apr 05, 2007 01:13 pm It won't be admissible in court, but so what, it's still proof, legal or not...and actually, I am not sure, but in many states adultery is technically "illegal" as well...so, well...one reaps what one sows, I have no sympathy for the man. He's a scumbag.
What a weird gig though, and kinda cool as long as you don't necessarily know either of them too personally and can stay detached.
Shouldn't be too tough to clean up. Keep us updated how it goes, kinda interesting.

Apr 05, 2007 01:19 pm Might be able to make some cool samples. Haha, Maybe Alanis Morrisette will buy them
Apr 05, 2007 01:26 pm mmmmmm...Alanis Morrisette...mmmmmmm
Apr 05, 2007 01:46 pm speaking of alanis, i thought her remake of "my humps" was quite anticlimatic.
Apr 05, 2007 01:52 pm not for me
Apr 05, 2007 02:01 pm yeah, it's gonna be wierd hearin' 'em go at it...
as for the clean up (no pun intended), i think compression will bring up all the background noize with everything else...i havn't heard the material yet, but i'm prolly gonna use Audition for this one, it's got better tools for this, i just hope she's not expecting some miracle where ALL the background noize is removed and you can here the talkin' perfectly...
also she's just usin' it to show him that she knows what's up.
Apr 05, 2007 02:09 pm yeah, the compression will bring the noise up too, but if you use a multiband compressor you may be able to more accurately target the "vocals"...and if some of the noise comes with it, a good filter can possibly "learn" the noize better.

Apr 05, 2007 02:10 pm I'm kinda curious as to how she got this recording.
Did she turn it on and leave it in the car?
Was she hiding in the trunk?
Was the 'bangee' in on the deal?
Jeesh, all I get is the 'Can you convert my choir songs from tape to CD?' jobs.
And I agree, I probably wouldn't be able to stop laughing either =).

Apr 05, 2007 05:06 pm dB-Wan...back off on the Alanis thing. Can't you see she so obviously is MINE!!!!!
WYD: You might have something on the Karma thing. This is intensely personal.
I'd suggest a good parametric eq where you can sweep through and pinpoint the background noise. Maybe one of those tricky second track in reverse phase things...Tough gig.
Apr 05, 2007 05:09 pm yeah, she said she can't understand alot of the dialog (probably because there's background noizes AND the recorder was hidden...so i donno if i can even help all that much...she's watched too many CSI type shows.

Apr 13, 2007 09:24 pm If you guys really need samples of wale's and moans I have tons of them. Both male and female as well as combination's of sounds. Some have ended up as samples of one kind or another on several loops for DJ's out east.
Apr 15, 2007 04:03 am UPDATE
well i got the recorder on friday, it's a cheap hand-held digital thing and the audio seriously sucks! i donno if i'm gonna be able to help this poor lady... here's the wierd part, she's got the damn thing scripted out as if she can make out the conversation....now my ears arn't perfect but i KNOW they're better than hers, and i can't make out but a word or to, and the moaning. so i donno what i'm gonna do, monday or tuesday i'll get back to it....this is gonna be fun, i might post a before/after and tell what i did and ask for any ideas y'all might have.
cheers

Apr 15, 2007 10:57 am Something smells here.. My first question is, why does she need the audio cleaned up in the first place? If the purpose is just to confront the guy with his messing around, the original recording should suffice, because as soon as he hears it, he's gonna know what it is, and that he's sooo busted. From the way you describe this thing, it sounds like the guy isn't the only one with loose screws.
There's also a joke in there somewhere about "high fidelity infidelity" or something.
Apr 15, 2007 11:27 am Didn't REO have an album called "high infidelity"?
As far as why she needs it cleaned up, I see one of two reason:
1- to prevent the guy from saying "no, that was really just [this]"
2- typical woman's needs to know more than they need to...my wife is like that...learns so much about whatever she winds up angry, hurt or something...

Apr 20, 2007 09:26 pm Yep, yep and yep.
I still have that REO album on vinyl, actually got all their stuff on vinyl. My wife is the same as well, just can't stop with the simple answer.

Apr 21, 2007 08:52 am REO rocks. My sister has all their stuff on vinyl.
Apr 21, 2007 04:35 pm oh this lady really has some problems upstairs, she's real sketchy....plus most of the conversation is really inaudible...i have no idea how she thinks they're sayin' what she wrote down...it's like she's hearing what she wants too....i'm gettin' down in it on monday or tuesday, i still havn't even transfered it to the computer yet (it's been a buzy week and this chick isn't exactly on 'high priority').

hee hee
Dude, you should have some fun with this one, and make two versions... add a couple of blatantly obvious sounds that aren't in there . Cows mooing, coocoo clocks, maybe a 'Nawlins jazz band... trombone... lots'a trombone !
