HRC Exclusive - "leaked" copy of new album

Alright guys...I think I've got the new album done. I've tentatively planned to send it out to the printer on Monday (or Friday if everything breaks right). However, I wanted to upload an mp3 copy of each of the tracks and see what everyone here thought of the production, the sequencing, whether anyone felt anything major was missing, etc.

So here it is...each song has its own link for easy access. Some of the songs are "oldies" on HRC (I think a couple date back to early 2005!), so you may have heard them in some form --- but they've changed a bit.

Some (but not all) changes I've made to the more recent tracks:

Jilt - Re-did vocals, took a couple of guitars out, re-balanced mix.

Choppy Waters - Re-EQ'd and compressed the guitars, altered drum tracks significantly, re-did the vocals, re-balanced mix.

Low Flying Birds - Completely new lyrics (and vocals, obviously).

Burning Sugar - Organ solo added to outro; re-balanced mix.

Strange Sensation - Took out "new" guitar solo. Re-balanced mix.

Thanks for listening! Your input and opinions, positive and negative, are and have been really helpful to me throughout the entire process. So take a listen, and lemme know what you think.

I'm downloading them all as I write, and am listening to them as they pop into iTunes. How'd you get Neil Young to sit in on "Broken Bird"?!?!?!

Seriously, you've done a very professional job of putting everything together into a cohesive ALBUM of songs. From what I can tell, production is great, sequencing is great, everything is great! I am looking forward to listening to the whole thing from start to finish to really get the vibe.

Thanks for sharing the fruits of your labors with the rest of us!

Jim

PS I must admit I was a little disappointed that "Cul de Sac" didn't make the final cut....perhaps a "hidden track" or a "download only" situation is in order? :-)

TC, Heard the first five. So far, generally very well tracked, mixed, mastered and they sound pretty balanced too.

Hmm my fav mixjob is "I Wandered Away" where the acoustic guitars both L & R are very well EQed and compressed. The same goes to "My Eraser" and "Lake Effect". I wont say much about the vocal tracks tho, they are all good to me. The songs themselves - good compositions no doubt.

"Broken Bird" on the other hand sounded too raw with noises, upfront vocals and all, but maybe it's just the chosen style for this album. Kinda reminds me of the last Johnny Cash CD.

Hey btw good job & good luck.. I'm gonna continue downloading.

Thanks for the input so far, guys. Bleak, Kaos, Jim, I'm looking forward to your comments.

Ciinx - Yeah, "Broken Bird" is a little raw, I agree...although you may find that as a recurring motif on the album. After three or so songs of wide panning, I felt like I needed something to jolt the audience a bit. :) Plus, it's a naked enough song that I felt smoothing it out might not do it justice. Thanks for your comments on the other songs..."I Wandered Away" seemed like it took forever to mix. Can't wait to hear what you think of the rest of it.

Jim - Neil and I go way back, ever since I helped him out of that infamous "moose incident" back in '93.

Actually, it's funny, because I remember when I first posted "Broken Bird", you said something about how the vocal reminded you of Jerry Garcia. Either way, I'll take it. :)

As for Cul-De-Sac...I struggled over whether to include it or not, but I just haven't hit it quite right in the recording process...you know what I mean? It's almost there, but it wasn't there at the same time. At the very least, it'll have a place on the next album...just for you. :)

Yeah...the Jerry Garcia comparison sill applies. (The Neil Young comment was more directed to the harmonica :-) )In fact, there are several songs that sound a lot like the Grateful Dead. All you need is the Bob Weir harmony and you'd have it nailed.

Actually, that's not true...these songs really do have a fresh breath of originality to them. I'm currently on my second trip through the album, and I'm more impressed with each listen. I'll give you song-specific comments when I get a chance.

Well I'm standing by my young John Hiatt reference on some of the songs. I will agree with Jim though on the others too.

Well I listened in the car to the whole thing and will be doing so again as I think it is that good. I think your order is very good on this. The tracks all seemed to flow very well together. Here is the big kicker. My wife was riding along and she basically hates everything except what is played on the classic rock station. She is stuck in a little bubble as far as music goes and won't come out for anything. She actually liked the music and asked who it was. To her amazement she actually liked something that didn't fit in her little bubble. So you can take that as a huge compliment coming from a very close minded music listener.

As for the sound of the tracks, again everything seemed to fit very well and the sound was nice and even and level throughout the CD. Nothing jumped up and screamed as if it was out of place. Do you have a working tittle yet.

And ya, what happened to Cul de Sac? I as well liked that tune a lot. Hidden track for sure with that one.

Also are you going to put it up for sale in the HRC store. I'll order for sure.

Wow, Noize...thanks! That's about the most positive review anyone could hope for. And tell your wife that I love her taste in music. :)

The working title is "Interstate 23". I've got the artwork done on it --- now I'm just waiting for the Diskfaktory people to contact me back.

And yes, I am planning on putting it up for sale in the HRC store...so at least I'll have one transaction!

Thanks for checking it out, Noize.
