Does a old really mixer necessarily mean a bad mixer?

I got myself a Fostex 250 - 4 track recorder/mixer which has served me well as a play around 4 track for a long time. This thing was built like pre 1982!

I am i gonna suffer serious signal degredation if I use this for a mixer for my home recording?

It sounds clear at the moment (it crackles when I turn the gain knobs though ;)

Is there a way of testing? or should I bin it and move on?

as long as the jack and pots are clean it should work just fine...age matters little...
